Publisher's summary

“Tense, twisty, fraught with emotion and packed with secrets, The Couple at Number 9 is Claire’s best thriller yet.”—Gilly MacMillan, bestselling author of What She Knew

The internationally bestselling author of Do Not Disturb and Just Like the Other Girls delivers a heart-pounding psychological thriller about a couple who inherit what seems to be their dream home, until they make a horrifying discovery—and the danger begins.

The Victims . . .

When pregnant Saffron Cutler moves into 9 Skelton Place with boyfriend Tom and sets about renovations, the last thing she expects is builders uncovering human remains. The remains of two bodies, in fact.

The Investigation . . .

Forensics indicate the bodies have been buried at least thirty years. Saffy has nothing to worry about—until the police launch a murder inquiry and ask to speak to the cottage’s former owner. Her grandmother, Rose.

The Witness . . .

Rose is in a nursing home and Alzheimer’s means her memory is increasingly confused. She can’t help the police, but its’ clear she remembers something.

The Killer . . .

As Rose’s fragmented memories resurface, and the police dig ever deeper, Saffy fears she and the cottage are being watched.

The Truth . . .

What happened thirty years ago? Why did no one miss the victims? What part did her grandmother play? And is Saffy now in danger?

Narrators’ voices

I really wish the main female narrator would not imitate a male’s voice. It’s poorly dine and very annoying.

Great fluffy book

Definitely kept my attention the whole time although I guessed the major plot twist half way. But I was specifically looking for a fluffy book that would offer a cozy escape from day to day and this was perfect. Love the narrators and the writing is not bad.

Captivating!

Loves this! It was the right amount of suspense and reveal at the right times. I could stop listening when there was -2 hours left!

And the performance was great. I’m very picky about readers’ voices, but these two were pleasing to the ear.

I definitely be looking for more Claire Douglas.

Easy summer read

I enjoyed the book and her narration. I guessed the plot pretty early on, but still enjoyed it.

Best story twist in a long time!

Among many well laid out twists, there was one to which I physically gasped! I actually stated out loud "Whoa! I did NOT see that coming!" Great book right up to the last page.

Enjoyable Slow Burn

I liked this one a lot! It definitely moves at a slow pace but it made it feel like you were figuring it out along with the characters. I guessed bits as I went along but still enjoyed seeing how it all unfolded. The narrators were both good. My only gripe is that Saffy is a highly annoying character, but the story made up for it.

Interesting!

This was a good book It kept me interested even though they had to drag an issue in there but other than that it was a good book. Enjoy both narrators.

Loved it!

This is one of the best stories and audio performance I’ve heard in quite awhile. It had me guessing until the end and there were no irritating affectations by the readers.
