Publisher's summary

My fingers traced the indented letters of the silver WWJD bracelet on my right wrist. I do that when I'm considering pummeling someone.

Gil Mason is a simple guy with complex problems. Cross Phillip Marlow with Caesar Milan, The Dog Whisperer, and you create a new breed of private eye, complete with the courage of a pit bull, and the heart of a labrador.

Max, Gil's K9 partner, has a few problems of his own. It's a love-hate relationship. Part of Max wants to love his human master, while his alpha personality instinctively drives him to take control of the pack.

So how does a former cop turned PI find a missing teenage boy, who has been kidnapped by a corporate billionaire, while dealing with his own feelings of guilt and loneliness over the murder of his family, all while keeping his canine's homicidal tendencies in check? Brains, guns, and fists combined with an intimate understanding of dog psychology.

As long as Max doesn't eat him first.

Awesome Canine Action Novel

A great story about a man healing from life and his dog pack--Max is superb, and Pilgrim is a great dog, too! The author gives us too perspectives--Gil, the human Alpha in the equation, and Max, the Belgian Shepherd who has aspirations of leading the pack one day... Together, they, along with Pilgrim, make a great PI Team, ready to serve to the death! Looking forward to hearing the next in the series!!

Wish it had a different Narrator

Good story, great dogs. I love when the author tells story thorough the dogs eyes, if the author really knows dogs. Really had a hard time finishing the book because of the narrator. Some people seem to like him, but I found him Very annoying, Every other comment is a secret, snide laugh. Don't know if I will follow the series if the narrator stays the same, at my age have hard time seeing to read anymore.

Good Story!

I enjoyed this story very much. Just edgy enough to keep my interest, but not too over the top with gory crime stuff. I have working K9’s myself and it was fun to listen to the authors’ interpretation of what a working dog does/thinks lI felt like it was pretty accurate. I really enjoyed the narrator. And the main character Gill is very likable.

Sheepdogs Keeping the Wolves @ Bay

Really enjoyed. I thought it was so good. Can’t wait to get the next book of the sheepdogs. Next adventure of Max and Gil. If it comes out on audible, it will be great.

Enjoyable

I enjoyed the story but the narration was all wrong. Gil should have a deeper, stronger voice. This narrator sounded like a young man, perhaps a teenager. It does not reflect the age and strength of the main character. He also read too fast, not giving any time to the emotional aspects of the various scenes. Also, Max should have had a voice that has a lot of the hard nosed, rough temperament of his character. It was hard to believe that Max had that kind of determination and hatred and desire for revenge due to the weakness of the narator's voice. I hope the next book in the series has a much different and stronger narrator.

overall, it's a decent story

One of the interesting parts, at least to me, were the chapters from Max's perspective.

Great story but the narrator needs work.

I really enjoyed the story. The back and forth between Max and his owner was enjoyable. I kept waiting for Max to attack!
I really hated the narrator though. NOBODY is so animated as he portrays everyone. It annoyed me so much that instead of listening to any more, I'm just going to buy the actual books and read them myself. He needs to listen to other narratives and learn to dial it down a few notches.
