Publisher's summary

All empires eventually fall....

The United States is no exception...

And out of the embers, a lawless new empire will rise....

Across the world, the United States recalls troops to combat civil unrest after the biggest economic meltdown in history. Marine Sergeant Ronaldo Salvatore’s platoon comes home to a powder keg that could ignite a civil war. While some see the coming collapse as the end, others see opportunity.

Fleeing Naples after rival crime lords decimated his family, Don Antonio Moretti settles in Los Angeles to rebuild his criminal empire. But he is far from alone in his ambitions - the cartel and rival gangs all want the same turf, and they will sacrifice their own soldiers and the blood of innocents to get it.

As open warfare erupts across the states, Salvatore fights his way back to LA, where his son has joined the police in the battle for a city spiraling into anarchy. Family is everything, and the Morettis and Salvatores will do what they must to protect their own. But how far will they go to survive in a new economy where the only currency is violence?

The explosive new Sons of War series is a harrowing and realistic depiction of what a second American Civil War and the aftermath might look like, from former Homeland Security Disaster Mitigation Officer and New York Times best-selling author Nicholas Sansbury Smith.

This is one is so close to the way the world is now. And he started writing it 3 years ago. I can’t wait for more to come.

Vividly Told, a Bold Move!

Nicholas Sansbury-Smith is an excellent writer who knows how to weave an engaging yet terrifying story that the reader cannot help but connect it to what is happening today. In a time where a pandemic situation could very easily bring about the economic downfall of the world, Sansbury-Smith could not have picked a better time to debut his newest novel, Sons of War.

Mixing mafia, politics, military, and paramilitary all into one novel was a bold move. One that I feel, as a reader, was brilliant. It is exciting when an author moves from one genre to another and does it as well as Sansbury-Smith has done.
This story follows a small community within Los Angeles through a cataclysmic economic and political breakdown affecting the U.S. A father and son bent on protecting not only their wife and daughter/mother and sister but their friends, the innocent, and their country. The mafia intent upon building an empire based on drugs, sex/human trafficking as well as death and destruction; the paramilitary bent on removing the power of the US government into their own hands all while riots and starvation occur.

Vividly detailed, the plot and character development are flawless as are the plot twists! The dialog is realistic and well done. Sansbury-Smith has a knack for storytelling and does so in a riveting style. Complete with action, adventure and edge of your seat moments, Sons of War promises to be all that listeners desire and you should know up front that you will NOT be able to put it down until the end! When you do reach the end, you are going to want more!

Ray Porter, narrator, gives an excellent performance. He masters the characters in a manner that leaves the listener thoroughly engaged and moves the story along at the appropriate pace. I cannot think of anyone better for this performance. With both Porter and Sansbury-Smith, this is another successful series.

If you have ever heard one of Nicholas Sansbury-Smith's books, you know he is top-notch. This book drives home his skill and talent as a storyteller.

NSS is the king of future disasters!

NSS won my personal unlimited praise for futuristic and very credible end of life as we know it stories with Hell Divers. I hope to live long enough to see the TV Series. This new Sons of War is just as good as Hell Divers period, and I can't say more than that. I admit though it doesn't seem possible that, any new story from NSS could have more blood and gore than Hell Divers, but Sons of War incredibly does. It figures you take a period in time like the glory days of prohibition and CAMORA MAFIA which was very terrible, for blood and killing. Then add it to all the new crimes of the Cartels. Then change the result from money to power and modern politics. from money to power. Then you have the very believeable in our current day preview of what will happen to America if Donald Trump looses the 2020 election. America is going to die a terrible death, Millions of Americans will die. I read this book and change the names to modern real people. It is very easy to do. this will and should scare the living hell out of the reader.

Perfect Book For a Pandemic Lockdown

Not only is Ray Porter one of my favorite narrators, but Nicholas Sansbury Smith continues to be one of my all time favorite authors. His incredible talent to develop characters makes it hard to part with them when you have to put the book down or pause your story.

Diamond Standard!

Wow. As usual, NSS knocks it out of the park! Hits the ground running and never stops. By Chapter 5 I was beginning to have some serious anxiety! Especially with the current climate going on now, this plot line is not inconceivable at all.

I'm really going to enjoy this book series and I can't wait for the 2nd book to come out.

EXCELLENT JOB NICK! MOST EXCELLENT!

So Conflicted.....

I am normally not one to review books here. I am also not one usually willing to absorb the high levels of gratuitous violence, as clearly depicted in this book. However, I was captivated by this book's fantasy of enormous corruption of our country's institutions, promoted by our United State government's top leadership. It is clearly seen today how a few officials could so easily undermine our citizenry's basic respect for and dependence on our key institutions. Since we already are now experiencing the mid sequence staging in the undermining of our Post Office, our transportation system, our Police, our legal system, our elections, and OUR MILITARY, etc...; we are but a few short steps away from total reversal of all the traditional goals and values of this country. There are so few cases of true honor highlighted in this book's characters responding to disaster.

So aside from the ugliness of all the highlighted characters in the book, I find it impossible to even slightly like any of these beings. This is not the nobel strivings of Brecht's "Mother Courage" portrayed in this book. From the cruel sadism and power hungry manipulations of the organized crime bosses, gang-bangers, and politicians; to the mom-god-apple-pie attitudes and behavior of the brave (one dimensional) idiot-heroes, willing to offer their lives for a totally unappreciative, undermotivated, and dangerous country.... (the population of which has squandered its resources and yielded its precious and previously hard won freedoms to thugs till it is simply too late to do much about it). When one looks at the total one-sided thug control exemplified today by our elite "lawmakers" refusal to allow a fair, open, and constitutionally sanctioned trial of our president, it is easy to project the gradual loss of freedom and slippage into chaos outlined by this book to present day events. I believe this book is worth reading and reflecting upon for this purpose. As I said we are still in "mid-sequence" staging. There is still hope.

My response is this: Please Read This Book! But please think about all the implications of the book! It is not just about the porno-violence it contains. the story implies much more!
