Darkness falls.

In an instant, the world goes dark. Power grids fail, planes fall from the sky, and America is thrown into chaos.

Lucy Goodwin, an emergency room nurse, is anxious to get home to Virginia when her life is turned upside down by the mysterious blackout. Trapped in Washington, DC, and lucky to be alive after her train crashes, she realizes her journey home is only getting started.

Lucy befriends a young girl orphaned by the disaster, and together, they must face down humanity’s capacity for darkness if they are to survive the opening days of America’s new reality.

Unrealistic with almost likable characters

This could have been so much better. The characters were close to being likable, but not quite. The heroine spent 3/4 of the book ranting about how much she hated guns & all the reasons they were evil. Even after she realized the blackout was from an EMP she still thought the power would magically come back on at any minute. The parts that should have great detail did not; the mundane parts had slightly more. Apparently the characters could go days without water- that oversight was distracting. It read like a rough draft.

Not worth it

The author obviously does not like men. They are either creeps or wimps. The MC also doesn’t like men. She is also a super woman w/o the background to be so. Stuck with it thinking the MC would get better as she moved thru scenarios. Nope. And author also does not write the way normal people would think or speak. She’s smart....ok we get it...

Really enjoyed this

I really like the strong heroine in this story. Unlike some apocalyptic stories this didn’t seem far fetched. Good story and people to root for - my kind of book. The narrator was really good as well. I will be waiting for the next one.

Mehhh

Main character spends the first part of the book complaining about the evil of guns then spends the rest of the time wishing she had one. Secondary character says in the first part of the book stating how all white people are racist. The writer needs to better know his audience.

Shadows Review

A bit disappointed in this book. So much more could have been done with this! They walked two weeks and zero details? Not one of my favorites. I doubt I will listen to the rest.

Lame story

Unbelievably lame, main character is just stupid. Hard to follow the botched storylines. I couldn’t even make it through the book. What happened to being able to return an audible book.
