Publisher's summary

The power is gone. It was no accident. Only the prepared will survive....

Before the lights went out, Jack Warrant never considered himself a prepper. That was someone on the edge, a conspiracy theorist or a doomsday cultist who had a fatalistic view of the world. He was neither a theorist nor a cultist. He was an optimist. At least that was what he told himself when the darker thoughts creeped into his psyche as he stared at the ceiling in the middle of the night. Whenever he started down the rabbit hole, he always clawed his way back into the sunlight. But then the world as he knew it ended, and he realized he was wrong. About himself. About the lengths to which desperate people will go.

Prepper is the newest apocalyptic adventure series from Tom Abrahams, author of The Traveler series. It’s perfect for fans of Franklin Horton, Kyla Stone, and Ryan Schow.

Engaging But Recycled Take On EMPs

This story reminded me a lot of several other Audible titles covering EMP scenarios that were previously published. I’d add that it’s a little on the short side compared to those other books to spend an Audible credit on. That said, it’s been an engaging story and I’ll likely listen to the rest of the series. As usual, this narrator delivered a great performance.

Interesting Premise

Interesting new series with wide cast of characters which seem real. Very interested in seeing book #2.

Great story but

Its a great story but felt like a lot of filler. I just finished book 3. I feel like too much time is spent on the villain and the governor. The author didn't make me want to care about them. I would have been really happy if they did a little back story on how it happened and left it at that. G Man is a little interesting but seemed to just be injected into the story. Jack and his family were the interesting parts. I felt like I was just waiting until they talked about Jack and his family.

Painfuly plausible

I enjoys enjoy the team of Tom and Kevin. And this book is a well laid out and very plausible WHAT IF? A particular piece of tech mentioned has me think real work purchasing for my family. I really pray it wont happen but I think it is just a matter of when. This is a great story about normal folks dealing with the when.

Boomer Action

Books 1-3 so far.
The over-explanation of military jargon, tactics and equipment make the book series friendly to newbies but gets tiring to hear. The described personal history with overly spoken modesty and boomer era bro speak, meant to convey bravery and selflessness, make it feel like a soap opera quality of writing that only older generations would get excited for. Feels a lot like a bootlicker’s story.

Overall, decent story with useful advice that I would still recommend. Preparedness is becoming more commonplace, as it should, and these types of stories will help.

This series likely becomes an omnibus—so wait.

The twists here are interesting and the reading performance is excellent. The beta-male behavior of even the seemingly most assertive males makes me wonder if Tom had a co-author. I’ve not seen his other characters asking their wife for permission to take a short drive…but it happens here. This shows a strong effort to prove beta men can be good dads… though in my mind this book now seems to have an agenda. Weird. Then there is the length. At the beginning of book 1 there is an excerpt (with slight variations) of a climax that occurs in book 3. These books are incomplete. It is okay for books to take 30 hours…and if it’s a money thing, well at least double them up. I’m done after book 3. If we took out re-hash of past stuff, total book would be <5 hours. That isn’t worth a credit.

So despite this fellow being a favorite author, I can’t really recommend these unless money is no concern, and you don’t mind men that are consistently overpowered by their female relationship leader. Again, weird—ALL of the relationships are female dominated.

It’s exciting and it’s real!

Just finished this audiobook on Audible! Another
⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ review for Tom Abrahams for this very realistic, as in it could happen tomorrow, storyline!

When the grid goes down, family comes first, friendly neighbors become frienimies, and “your relic of the past” F-150 is your only way forward!

It’s exciting, it’s real and you can’t help but to place yourself right in the middle of it!

Also, hats off to Kevin Pierce! He makes the best stories even better. If you’re an author and you have Kevin Pierce on board, hold him close and never let him go!
