Why I started this book.
In the comments I read, I was encouraged by the heavy drinkers to pick up this book, because I didn't believe it could work. I had been to AA meetings and being an atheist, I immediately locked up. I would have gone to listen to the stories (like the narrator character in Fight Club), but not to experience change. I'm a sailor, and I developed a very heavy drinking habit, and was able to maintain it without many repercussions at work, because a lot of my bosses have heavy drinking problems. My wife said I needed to do something--and after countless times of shooting back a, "yeah, sure, I'll get on that." I finally realized that I might lose her if I didn't.
I would drink a six pack a night, about once or twice every month (this was meant for nights when I was exercising "control" because there was something important happening the next day): every other day of that month, I drank at least ten beers plus shots of whatever I had in the freezer. I'd finish off a 30 pack on Saturday and Sunday as long as I woke up in time to drink through the morning. I only breaks I took from drinking for the past 10 years where when I had to deploy or when I was too sick for the hair of the dog. I never drank to enjoy a beverage to complement a meal or any hoity toity nonsense like that: I drank to get drunk. And if I ever started drinking and couldn't reach that goal for some reason, I was mad.
What the transition was like.
I listened to the book in the car, washing dishes, etc. I didn't quit drinking when I started it, but I followed the instructions and I never listened while I was drinking. I had a lot of fear at first, but I decided to go to the bar with my wife and I knew my friends were going to have some questions about this, because I quit. Nowadays, I go to the bar to play golden tee golf, and darts, but I haven't had a drink in about three months, and I don't see any reason I'd ever drink again. I have to admit I was nervous to go to a bar and try to avoid drinking, but it's really easy.
I ended up reaping some great unexpected benefits, too. Sure, I feel better and I wake up more excited, but my mood has balanced out a lot. And I have always been someone who has a very uneven mood. I has allowed me to remove delusional beliefs in other areas of my life as well. You don't recognize how brainwashed you are until you start going through it one by one. My recommendation is to keep this self improvement going with a book like miracle morning or practicing mindfulness.
I felt the author used too many of his life stories in the book, which made it hard to keep my attention.
Also I disagree with some of his statements.
It's not the chemical itself that addicts you its the belief that it gives you genuine pleasure that does! any false belief can be dispelled with the right information and this book has just that.
This book changed my life . I was tired of feeling overweight, depressed and tired all the time. All the reasons we drink alcohol wether to relax, be happy or to enjoy life didn't require alcohol. In fact , drinking did the opposite. This was the basic premise of the book. I read this book twice until I finally got it. Now I don' t feel like I'm deprived if I don't have an occasional drink . I have no desire to feed into a belief that life is better with alcohol. I'm happier , more in control , and am losing weight. I am beginning to love myself more and appreciate life and living. I highly recommend this book .
Even though Allen Carr was successful in making it Easy for me to quit smoking. I'm even more amazed that he made it Easy to quit drinking!!
Why do you ask? I thought what are the chances of lighting striking twice!
I would if I needed to, but so far I don't
I used his advice to quit drinking and now have no desire to have another drink, ever.
How I don't need or enjoy alcohol.
If you are struggling to quit the sauce but can't stand the thought of AA, this is the book for you.
I can see how alcoholics stopped drinking after reading this book. People who don't quit haven't really understood the book , understanding the book and its message is something you've never heard before about drinking , be prepared to be shocked as the story twists. I myself have told all my friends I have stopped drinking after reading this , will it last? Only Time will tell .. I believe it will. I'm free. Come into this book as skeptical as you want.

I never would have believed how effective this book could be.
You need to stay open minded and bits are a little out of date, but I am completely in control of my drinking now. In fact, I haven't had a drink for over a month (I was a daily drinker) and not had one craving or withdrawal, despite continuing a full social life.

Excellent, completely changed the way I view alcohol. Requires an open mind. Good narrator throughout.
This book is written for alcoholics which I am not but there's useful information nevertheless for those like me who are thinking of quitting to help in weight loss efforts
thank you for taking the time to promote an opportunity for people from all walks of life to understand the metal trap alcohol consumption creates and also the opportunity to open mindedly evade the schizophrenia of a perpetuating cycle
I was a bit cynical but wanted to quit and I thought I would give this a go. I have been drinking heavily now for 15 years (7-8pints a day easily) and after listening to this audio book I have completely stopped now for 2 weeks.
He understands the issues and unravels them with emotional intelligence and IQ
This guys talent was to clearly understand and articulate a map through what I did not think was possible and take me out of the maze I was trapped in. Easily the audiobook that will have the biggest impact on my life.

Good book that stops the brainwashing of alcohol within, society and the media. Recommended highly for those who want to control their alcohol.
listened twice through, but that is easy way. sometimes you are ready. quit smoking years ago and now on the verge of being free from alcohol. thank you Allen & your legacy :-)
So far this method has vastly improved my life. I now no longer drink or smoke and can enjoy life oh so much more!

I got this book as I wanted to reframe my attitude to alcohol to help get results from a 3 month fitness program I signed up to.
Before the book I was a social drinker, quite capable of 'accidentally' letting a glass of red with dinner turn into a bottle one or two nights a week, plus beers at the weekend etc.
I got through the book in a week during my drive to and from work and a longer drive to see a client. Im being totally honest when I say it's been life changing; I'm not interested in having a drink at all now and the effect on my fitness (combined with diet and training) has been significant, plus work seems a lot less stressful and more manageable.
On the whole I can't recommend this book enough if you're looking to change your drinking habits....be prepared though you might never want to drink again! But when you've finished the book you'll realise that's not as scary as you probably currently think!
