Insights and Practices for Finding Sanctuary in Any Circumstance
When the difficulties and losses of life feel overwhelming, is there someplace we can turn for the safety, nurturing, and peace that we long for? Most of us are strongly conditioned to react with fear and confusion, falling back on strategies of judgment, control, addictive behaviors, and anger. Yet there is another way. “In any moment, no matter how lost we feel, we can take refuge in presence and love,” teaches Tara Brach. On Finding True Refuge, this renowned psychologist and meditation teacher offers you three sessions of spiritual teachings and practices for finding your way home to the inner sanctuary that is always available. Tara reveals how the three gateways of refuge-truth, love, and awareness-allow us to draw on our own deepest wisdom, and offers eight guided meditations that include:
When we seek comfort and relief from stress, Tara Brach teaches, we often unconsciously turn to false refuges such as material wealth, approval from others, or a preoccupation with the past and future. Yet by cultivating true refuge in this moment, we not only find reliable and trustworthy shelter from the storms of life, we also open ourselves up to fully experiencing joy and fulfillment. With Finding True Refuge, Tara brings you essential practices for awakening to the aliveness within you, and discovering that you can love this life - no matter what.

hot crafty goodness
Russian roulette for meditations since there are only chapter numbers and each meditation begins the same way with no introduction as to which meditation it is. Very unhelpful, defeating the purpose of mindfulness. The actual meditations are fine, sometimes the pauses are a bit long, but that's fairly common for guided recorded meditations. You'd be better off getting a hard copy, maybe that would have a track list on the back. Or just buy individual copies of the meditations, then you'll know which is which.
Hearing Tara's voice on this recording is so comforting. I'm finding the wisdom she shares to be having immediate impacts on my life. Thank you.
Tara Brach takes a compassionate but realistic view of ways to find true refuge in today's hectic world. Stress being the scourge of 21st century life livid in the fast lane of the super highway we need the wisdom and indeed the refuge outlined here. Thoroughly recommend it
"You have to listen carefully"
I read this book as part of my mindfulness course. It's inspiring for anyone facing hard times. You have to listen carefully and carry out the exercises and it would be helpful if these were pre-bookmarked so you can come back to them easier and practice them particularly if you're listening to some of this book in the car and can't place bookmarks in at the time.
Sensitive and insightful. Tara shares her deep wisdom with warmth and courage, bringing us closer to truth and love. Well-paced reading.
"Mindfulness and kindness"
Lovely meditations for hard moments in life. For use when you need to be kind to yourself and allow some compassion in.
"Useful, but needs chapter breaks"
The book was full of thoughtful information and advice and contained meditations I would use again.
The book would be more useful if it had a chapter break at the start of each meditation. This would make it much easier to return to a particular meditation to use it again or to keep returning to it, instead of having to go through the rest of the section before it each time.
