Really thought I was going to hear more words of wisdom from the Wizard but that was not the case. Yes you hear a little of what the Wiz says about each of his blocks then you hear a bunch of scripture and the actually passages. Not against the bible but that is not what I was expecting. The narrator gives each passage number as well. As famous as the Bible is I was not interested in hearing the narrator give how the passage fits the building block and the mortar. Made the book dry and less interesting.
Only gave it 3 stars because at least the blocks are given out with a bit of a reason as to why from the Wiz. Very tempted to have given it just 2 stars
Hearing Coach Wooden personally explain his building blocks and mortar qualities.
Hearing about so many of basketball's superstars who were greatly influenced by this amazing man and as a result are successful men as well as successful athletes.
Clear and reasonable pace.
Yes. I couldn't wait listen to the next chapter.
as a non religious person, I was very annoyed with floods of quotes from bible.
but, if you are a christian, this book can help you alot.
for me, I got too distracted to continue.
I'd like a refund.
I would recommand it only to christians
Yes evry time to listen to his stuff i learn something
It was all good stuff
I'm a huge fan of John Wooden. I was looking for a good book with his philosophy. This book certainly is good for that. However, two things kept me from giving this a higher review.
1. This book is more religious that I thought it would be. I probably should have read the description better.
2. This is one of the few books that is better in print, like a textbook would be, because I would have liked to refer to a printed chart of his pyramid and make notes.
I would read everything by Coach Wooden
He kept it simple and applied scripture to his story
Very Much so!! No idea on actors
Great words to live by - easy to follow and incorporate into your life to help make you a better person
so many hard to chose one
Industriousness and enthusiasm
Great motivational book from a man who was well respected by all.
Yes, there were so many inspirational stories. He created an environment that wouldn't have allowed Joe Paterno's problems in the door. He kept a bible on his desk , but never preached to any of his players.
When he talked about the time four of his players were out with the measles, and the opposing coach ran up the score. He said he did the same thing to that team when his team was at full strength. He later apologized for not choosing the higher ground.
The Higher Calling
As a student athlete back in the 70's when Coach Wooden was at his peak, I had the pleasure to play against Coach Wooden's teams and watch far across the court as he masterfully coached his teams to excellence.
He had such a knack for communicating to his teams what he expected on and off the court.
I have befriended several UCLA coached players from that era, and every single one of them have nothing but glowing praises to heap upon the man they all call "Coach".
This is an excellent book, not only about basketball, but more importantly about Life!
Coach Wooden was a man who was truly ahead of his time in so many ways!
He not only was a "great maker of men and young people", he was a visionary and someone who "walked the walk and talk the talk".
They don't come along very often like Coach Wooden.... we can all learn some valuable lessons on life from Coach!
