Publisher's summary

This program features a new introduction read by Daniel Goleman and a bonus dialogue between the author and Jon Kabat-Zinn.

It is the tenth anniversary since the first publication of Daniel Goleman's groundbreaking bestseller, Emotional Intelligence, which maps the territory where IQ meets EQ, where we apply what we know to how we live. Spending over a year on the New York Times bestseller list, Emotional Intelligence provided the evidence for what many successful people already knew: being smart isn't just a matter of mastering facts; it's a matter of mastering your own emotions and understanding the emotions of the people around you.

"Great info"

What did you love best about Emotional Intelligence?

The way the Author made you understand that it's a science behind how feel, and act in different situations.

What other book might you compare Emotional Intelligence to and why?

I have not found such a book. This one seems pretty original.

What three words best describe Barrett Whitener’s voice?

Very intellectual... Like a seasoned university professor.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

"The Heart's Mind"

Any additional comments?

This book provides some "GREAT" information. But! All the Medical Terminology makes it hard to follow from the beginning. It took me a few chapters to really get into, and understand what some of the Medical Terms were... If this was written with in an easier to follow format (i.e. without all the Medical Terminology) I would have gave it "5 Stars" across the board. But because of the use of all the Medical Terminology, at times, I found myself trying to figure out what certain word meant, or stood for, rather than just focusing on the actual information in the story that was being told.

Terrible narrator

The narration is very difficult to pay attention to details of book. No need to purchase.

Interesting but cold

I did like that his point of view was well supported by various studies.

I’ve been meaning to read up on emotional intelligence because the concept has been mentioned several times in my workplace.

I felt this author’s treatment of the propensities of children and outcomes described as a bit unbalanced.

Overall, I feel the time spent reading this book was rewarding.

The narration is good enough

I see lots of very dramatic reviews bashing the narrator for sounding robotic, but that’s not the case at all, he just likes to annunciate words in a really precise way. The information in this book is phenomenal, and people shouldn’t be giving it one star just because the narration isn’t 100% perfect. Seriously, i almost didn’t buy this because of all the rage from other reviewers, but don’t be fooled, you will love this book. I was recommended this while reading one of Robert Kiyosaki’s books.

Reads like a textbook - great info

This book, particularly in the beginning, is very much like listening to someone read you a textbook. The examples explaining the content start to increase and make the book much more enjoyable to listen to. The content is fascinating and the book includes more and more examples as it progresses. The info can be applied to parenting, the workplace, relationships, you name it.

Wish I’d bought the physical book

Good content, but for real.... this dudes voice? Ruined the book for me in 30 seconds. He should be voicing ATM commands, not paid audio books. I honestly think my GPS has a more human-sounding voice. Waste of money.

Life changing information.

I am in constant cycle of reading and listening to this book over and over. it has absolutely transformed my life, and I can honestly say I am a better person today for consuming its content. In my opinion, self awareness is not a natural congenital attribute, and understanding it is essential to healthy daily living. I can't recommend it enough.
