Publisher's summary

As the dead prey on the living…

The end of the world has come not with a bang or a whimper, but with the guttural snarl of walking corpses hungry for human flesh. The "lucky" survivors flee an unstoppable virus spreading death and societal collapse across the globe.

The living prey on one another….

As the rules of civilization crumble, a lawyer, a pilot, and a nurse become comrades-in-arms in the fight against extinction. But not every enemy wears a rotting face, and anyone who doesn’t have your back just might have your head. Humankind’s twilight is at hand, and these are indeed...dark days.

So disappointed ~

After waiting and waiting for this book, I am disappointed in both the quality of the writing and of the story. The second half of the book seemed as if it were from another, much less qualified, writer, who seemed to think that variations of the "f" word made compelling reading.

Falls off a bit

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Good time. The story picks up immediately where it left off and goes into a different writing approach. It was a good read not great.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Added more elements of sole survival which made the first book so intense.

What does Nick Podehl bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Great work to bring realism to the listening experience.

Did Dark Days inspire you to do anything?

Survive the apocalypse with a Garfield. Stupid Cat!

Any additional comments?

Good book, but doesn't measure up to the first book. After reading the second I still have more vivid memories of the first one.

Can't catch a break

This is another good one where our characters just can't seem to catch a break. Good continuation of the series.

A lawyer, a Ukrainian, & a cat walk into a bar pt2

A lawyer, a Ukrainian, and a cat walk into a bar part 2 this time with more friends! Just like the first book I enjoy this. Sure the science isn't 100% sound like I read some reviewers complaining about in book 1. But, ehhh its fantasy it's not a nonfiction book. So sit back, suspend your belief, and enjoy as the wonderful Nick Podehl tells you the harrow tale of intrepid adventurers and their faithful cat. Trust me if you enjoyed the first one you'll like this one its more of the same fun adventures.

Our intrepid group swells to five, with the cat.

The author has dropped the journal style and moved to a survivor’s POV style instead. We begin with Lucita who was rescued from the hospitals kitchen where she and a Nun had been hiding and surviving for several weeks. Now the hardy group consists of four survivors, five if you count the cat. The lawyer, the pilot, the young woman Lucita who becomes romantically involved with the lawyer, and the Nun. Our intrepid group flees the hospital in fear of being overrun by the horde of infected closing in on their position. There are rumors of safe zones protected by the remaining military. Will the group survive the cross-country race to anticipated safety?

Accidentally listened a second time, glad I did.

Somehow this got unmarked as finished in my library. It had been so long since I'd read it, at first it didn't strike me as something I'd listened to, so I thought ack, it must not be very good. Well I was wrong, I have all three books and the other two are marked as read and I rated the first book 4-stars across the board. Once I got into the meat of the story, little bits came back to me. It was an entertaining story with a good pace, a good story line, and pretty good characters. I'm tempted to listen to the other two books #1 & #3 again, but I've got a back log of other books to hear. This story is well worthwhile and a good listen.

Full of action with a cliffhanger

The next installment in the apocalypse Z series doesn’t disappoint. Starting off which a nice overview of book one to get you caught up to the current happenings, it picks right up where the story left off. This book does a good job with keeping the pace moving and keeping the action coming except for one small section about a quarter of the way in (I can’t tell you why but it makes sense this part is action less from a story perspective). The characters don’t have a whole lot of growth in this book compared to the first but they’re just as likable and engaging. With a bunch of twists and turns you’ll never see coming (OK I didn’t at least) it a fun ride with a cliffhanger to end it all.

Nick Podehl does a great job managing the different voices but all the accents as well. Wonderful narration!

the saga continues

Any additional comments?

This is the second book in the Apocalypse Z series. It's another well told, fast paced zombie tale, which more or less picks up right where the first book left off. The story isn't quite as epic or far reaching as the 1st book. Still plenty of excitement, but it's tighter, more intimate story, taking place over the course of a few months rather than the year+ that the first book spanned. The ending was exciting and can't wait to see what happens next.

The book is narrated by Nick Podehl and as always he delivers an excellent performance, once more reminding me why he is one of the best narrators in the business.
