Publisher's summary

For fans of World War Z, a chilling mystery, an ancient threat, and a race against time to save humanity—inspired by the true events of the Dyatlov Pass incident

Russia, 1959. Nine members of a Soviet mountaineering team on an ambitious expedition into the Ural Mountains are found dead, victims of massive and bizarre injuries. The Dyatlov Pass incident, as this grisly event came to be known, remains unexplained to this day.

Iraq, 2019. Ex-soldier-turned-mercenary Cameron Becker is escorting a Russian businessman named Luka Belikov through Baghdad. It seems like a routine job, until Belikov is abducted on Becker’s watch. After forming an uneasy alliance with WHO medic Lori Dalton, Becker sets out to uncover the truth behind the attack, and quickly realizes he’s caught in the middle of something far bigger and more dangerous. As bio-terrorists prepare to unleash a virus that causes humans to descend into ravenous madness, the pair are thrust into a desperate race against time to prevent a global plague that could wipe out human civilization.

Who is behind the attack? What do they want? And how can humanity hope to survive? Becker and Dalton’s answers may just lie deep within the icy wastes of the Ural Mountains.…

Very much enjoyed a dip into some military mystery..

I enjoyed this book very much. I’m not much into military style books but was engaged the entire time for this. Now, I was hoping for a lot more of the Dyatlov Pass incident to come up as I really like the mystery to that history… but there was much less of it than I was expecting. I was also hoping for more mystery but the action and writing kept it intriguing for me. The beginning and ending were my favorite parts of the book dealing more with Dyatlov. Overall though I would like to check Will Jordan out more, I enjoy his YouTube. Perhaps when his other series comes on sale I’ll give it a try.

Bradford Hastings also did a fantastic job. Great accents and great overall narration. No complaints there.

a great story. narrated very well.

Initially, I bought this audiobook in support of an online content creator I like. I honestly did not expect the story to be this good, the narrator did a fantastic job aswell.

Sick story! In the good way!

The story was grossly interesting, and the narration was engaging. Sometimes books are overly descriptive but this had a nice balance of movement while making you feel like you are there at the setting.

better than expected

Although I am familiar with and love and like the author, this novel was a little bit different of an offering.

As indicated above, I reviewed it highly. As a result, I will mention a few critical items before going into the strengths.

Sweat is not a way to transmit viruses.
Plastic explosives do not explode explode because of a bullet.
Although sexy, and MP5 submachine gun is really not very effective compared to an M4 carbine. The M4 is lighter by 2 pounds, has has much greater lethality, the same rate of fire, comma is more accurate, and has a quicker manual of arms. Why do so many characters still use and use an MP5 submachine gun developed in the sixties?

That out of the way, the story had characters with depth, who reacted in human ways, who had background.

The story had some aspects you might find as obvious, until you realize that these just set you up for the twists in the plot.

There is no category for technical aspect to the writing or word selection, so I put this under story.

The author occasionally over uses a word, hitting it multiple times in a paragraph when others words would help to develop the concept with more detail.

Story category got a 4/5.

The narrator is an acquired taste. His female voices needed getting used to. I don't know what sort of accent Cameron's nemesis had, and I don't know why either, it's just sort of a mystery. A the story progressed and you get over the initial shock, he does well though, still a 4/5.

In the end, the whole body of the book is very enjoyable, satisfying, scary, emotive, and greater than the minor flaws it exhibits. Will Jordan puts a great story out here in a timely way.

I loved the book and finished it very quickly. I recommend it strongly.

great novel with few flaws

i very much enjoyed this book. i only have two nitpicks about it, but neither ruined the experience for me. first was when Dalton found out twice that Becker was a "cop". second, in the US Army when a military vehicle is driven, especially off post, you always need a TC. Basically, you need a passenger up front with you. when Becker impersonated the soldier and stole the humvee the gate guard should have questioned that.

now I'm not sure about all bases but every one I've been in, none checked ID upon leaving the base. so I'll reserve criticism for that bit.

Pulpy but with surprising depth

The critical drinker comes through with a good biological terrorism / zombie thriller. Recommended for genre fans.

Payoff

Setup. This book is excellent. Also, this review is required to be at least 15 words long so I can post it on Audible. :P
