Publisher's summary

Five hundred years ago, I fell in love with a vampire. It was a crimson fever that consumed me. I gave up my home, my family, and my pack to be with her. She obliterated my heart at the first opportunity.

Our fates are bound whether I like it or not. If she dies, I die.

She may have a death wish, but I don't. When she decides to risk everything for revenge, I have no choice but to stop her and find a way to be free of the vow I made. But surviving the dangers of Ellnesari together might not have the outcome I expect. Instead of freedom, I learn who Manu Della Morte truly is, and that reignites a passion I thought I had lost.

Contains mature themes.

more intrigue with each book

I stopped this series a while back but picked it back up when I saw there were more books released only to fall back into the cliffhanger trap...uuuuggh. I guess when I downloaded this book I didn't realize or pay attention that book 5 was not released.
Anyone that loves shifters, vampire books you are going to love how this one gets you excited to find out what will happen in the end. So now I have to wait yet again for the next book.

Left me hanging at the end

I really liked this book and the series overall. It did leave me hanging in the end..I hope there will be more about it in book 5 to close it off about Manu, Carl, Sheryl and Ronon. It kind of leaves it to your own conclusion but I’d rather not lol. I enjoyed this series and hope to see what happens in book 5.

Good story

This series is great but the ending of this book was lame! I hope the next book is better. I love the narrators they are amazing!

Overall really good

I didn’t find it hard to follow as others stated so thought it was good. My only complaint was the shortness of the book and the first cliffhanger of the 4 books so far. It’s not needed.

A tale of two romances!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💚🖤💙💜
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏🌎
Character development: ☹️🙃☺️
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The Hero: Karl - Karl is a wolf shifter who fell in love with a blueblood vampire named Manu. He left his pack behind and became a familiar to Manu, thinking they would be together forever. However, Manu sent him away for years and now the King has asked him to return to her side at the academy. This is all that was known about Karl in the previous books, aside from the fact that he has a sister named Cheryl and he was in a band with Vivi from Dark Prince.

The heroine: Manu - she is a blueblood vampire and is sister to Lucca and niece to the King. She once had a relationship with her brothers friend Ronan, back in the 1500’s and got pregnant from that relationship. While pregnant she is involved in a war against another group of vampires (under the leadership of Tatiana), that is when she meets Karl, while she is injured and losing her baby.

The Story: Karl and Manu both feel a pull towards each other when they first meet. This book is partially done via flashbacks and tells the story of their meeting, the reasons behind Manu’s hatred of the Nightingale queen, beyond the fact that Maeve cursed Manu’s brother, then Manu. After which Manu lost most of her coloring, her tan skin and her hair turned white. This book also tells why Manu sent Karl away, despite the fact that she is connected to him. She even admits the only reason she never went out to meet the sun, is because her death would mean his.

This book was told in multiple points of view via dual narration. Narrated by Mindy Kennedy and Troy Duran. Mindy has a nice voice and does a great job, though she doesn’t have a bunch of different voices for different characters so it is sometimes difficult to figure out who is talking. Troy Duran does a terrific job, as always. He has a bunch of both male and female voices.

I didn’t like Manu in any of the previous books because she was mean to just about everyone. This book gives the reasons she acts the way she does, but frankly it is a really weak person who takes her pain out on others, so I still didn’t like Manu very much, but it did explain a lot. As we have seen in previous books, Karl is a very good man, a great brother and friend, and is way too good for Manu.

This book also starts the story about Ronin and Cheryl. The thing I didn’t like was that this was more of a book about two separate romances and it was like half the story about both of them. The next book should be the rest. I would rather have the full story of Manu and Karl in this book and the full story of Ronan and Cheryl in the next, though I can sort of see why it was done this way, since the stories are intertwined. I just hate cliffhangers. I would also like to read the story of Derek Blackwater, the made vampire with wealth and power, who owns the nightclub, Havoc. I hope that one gets written as well.

Omg! What a betrayal!!!

Every other book in this series ended with a revelation and some sort of resolution to a main character’s love-interest “crisis.”
This book does neither. Rather it leaves the entire story hanging…just dangling there, not even tipped over either edge of the main conflict yet. Everything is left unresolved and at the height of the conflict with no idea which way it may go, a cliffhanger, if you will. The reason I’m mad is because it seems like a dirty trick to do this after setting the expectation for closure in the rest of the series. It feels like a tease. 🫤So, the sequel should come out soon, that’s the only fair thing to do after all. Please? 🥹 Although the entire series is good, and I do recommend it, don’t read this book until the sequel comes out, unless of course you prefer to be left breathless and wanting more. 😉

I need more!!!! What the hell??!!

I’m not a writer so I can’t understand why they do this. But hot damn do not read this book until book 5 comes out…if it ever does! You will be left wanting more. The story literally is just beginning. Ugh!!!! Excellent series for sure!!! Excellent voices!!! Love the story line! But, I should’ve waited for book 5 before listening to this now I have to wait for I don’t know how long

What happened?

This seems to only be half of the story. Where is the rest? The description of the story that I read in the title details never came to fruition. This is obviously not complete. What happened?

Hard to follow

This book was hard to follow with all the characters going back in time to build the back story. I finished but I'm not really sure what is going on.
