About the Author

Jane Austen is trending—permanently—and continues to attract top actors to Audible Studios, all eager to perform Austen’s witty and engaging dialogue. In an era when women didn’t put their own names on their work, Jane Austen quietly wrote six perfect novels that are present-day hot commodities; her celebrity, amazingly, is still growing. Austen’s work, which is sharply satiric, yet full of pathos, continues to delight contemporary listeners.

In the same year, she starred in Ari Aster’s terrifying cult hit Midsommar and in Stephen Merchant’s Fighting with My Family, playing the lead alongside Dwayne Johnson, Lena Headey, Nick Frost and Jack Lowden. Florence will next be seen in Marvel’s highly anticipated Black Widow and Olivia Wilde’s latest directorial outing, Don’t Worry Darling. Her other film and TV credits include Outlaw King, Lady Macbeth, The Little Drummer Girl and King Lear.

Audible Delight

All the actors and sound effects were amazing. It was an audible movie for each book. Very impressed. I’ve read Jane Austen books repeatedly in my youth. These retellings do justice to my imagination.

Anna Lea writes the BEST dramatizations!

These versions of the Jane Austen novels are similar to radio dramatizations with one main improvement: they’re waaay longer! Finally, radio shows with actual detail. This is now my favorite version of most of these books, preferred even to the BBC series and movie versions. I’m not a great fan of every voice actor included though; the narrator for Persuasion was particularly hard for me to follow along with. Overall though, it is fantastic. Well done to all involved in such a wonderful project!

Not perfect but still good

not perfectly accurate in relation to the actual books but enjoyable nonetheless, and the immersion level is fantastic

Very good but a couple of comments

My main complaint was in Pride and Pred. Eleanor sounded like her part was read in a cave. Also the music between chapters was annoying and sounded depressing. Otherwise I enjoyed the stories.

Everything about this production enhanced the already excellent text. I'll probably listen to this at least once a year from now on ❤️

so good

This is by far my favorite audio book experience!! I love how it is narrated and preformed. I think this would encourage younger readers to enjoy these beloved classics.

Abominable behaviour!

I understand that some adaptation is necessary yet Lizzie in P&P behaves abominably. Even I was offended by her replies and she would have been labeled fully indecent by stardards of that time.

A Series of Plays in Your Head

I prefer the unabridged, unadapted novels. However, some will particularly enjoy these adaptations over the longer novels to familiarize themselves with the original works. These are like a series of plays in your head. One thing I did not like: the calm representation of Jane's letter to Elizabeth about Lydia.
