This was not an enjoyable experience for me. I don't normally complain about a book being too long but this one sags and drags. I did not bond with the characters or the improbable plot. There was no suspense for me. Very repetitive and farfetched. The narration was okay, it was the story that disappointed.
Gardener, knitter, reader, mandolin & violin player for fun. Mostly like mysteries, history and biographies. Listen to almost anything though.
The storyline in Whiskey Beach would have fit perfectly into a short story format. It was frustrating to stop knitting and fast forward through the tedious parts, of which there were many. I listen to Nora Roberts when I'm in need of some light entertainment. This was a tedious slog through nothingness. No more Nora Roberts for me.
In my view, the narration was fine. It's hard to do much with a dull storyline.
Her books are becoming rewrites of previous books. I remember other books with lost treasures to only be found by love. The ideas in the book are copies of other books. Change the characters and a few other things. The narrator was boring as well. I used to love Nora Roberts books, and JD Robb, but she has dried up and it's not cutting it for me anymore. I will wait for reviews on future work before purchasing it, hate to waste my money.
I really enjoyed this book. Some might think it is typical Roberts & I guess it is but it is good nevertheless. Berkot did a great job narrating too. I would listen to him again & I definitely will read/listen to Nora again.
A better narrator for one that guy put me to sleep I couldn't even finish the voice was annoying and dull
No and I love Nora this book and narrator just were not up to par
slow dull and boring could not even get past the first few chapters
A new narrator would be best because this one stinks
Christal - Plano,
I don't have a clue.
I could not even get into the story. The Narrator was terrible. The worst I have listened to and I have 527entries from Audible. I don't think I even made it to the first hour. Very distracting. I love Nora and have read and listened to almost every one of her books. Please find another narrator for the Nora Roberts books.
Yes. I love Luke Daniels as a narrator. He draws me in to every story he has ever read.
I dont know. Its a nice murder mystery with a bit of romance in it that is not borderline porn! Just the right mix.
All of them
no, I was drawn in the whole time
This was another great book by Nora. I dont know what all these bad reviews were abot and I am mad at myself for letting those comments delay my purchase of this book. NO REGRETS HERE!
I'm not sure who would like this book more. I love Nora Roberts and this is the first one of her novels that I couldn't wait to end. Usually I can't put her books down but this one never really grabbed me.
I'm not sure yet but probably a romance because those are my favorite.
He did an okay job. All the women sounded weird but I think that's because it was a man trying to do women's voices.
Nothing, that's the problem.
I really hope this book was a fluke for Ms. Roberts because prior to this I never read one of her books that I didn't love. I read the reviews before buying this but I thought people must be wrong since I don't always agree with reviews.
I am a huge NR fan,I but this & the other recent books are very one dimensional writing. I'm no writer, but I've listened to hundreds of audible books, and this barely kept my attention. Yes, it's a mystery, but no real story there. Sorry to all NR fans. This is not worth a credit.
I listened to it on fast just to get it over with. The characters weren't at all believable to me. Also, yeah, you figure out who done it pretty quick. I think Nora just fell off my auto buy list.
"Second recording so much better"
Revisited this since it's been recorded again with a new narrator....and it's a completely different listening experience. Luke Daniels gives the characters' life and personality, which was lacking in the first narration, and makes it incredibly easy to care about and empathize with them. You know immediately who's talking, each character has a distinct voice, brilliantly done. The story took on a different perspective with much more depth and was like a first listen. Loved it this time round.
"Not up to her usual standard"
I am a big fan of Nora Roberts, and when she makes an effort her standalone romances are often her best work - The Witness was great - but this has a knocked off feel to it. Boring plot, and the lead female character was AWFUL. So smug and annoying, even worse than Mia Devlin in Face the Fire. Eli really should not have let her get away with dictating to him so much and "knowing better" than him constantly. I feel very sorry for him if he's stuck with her ever after.
Nope. Nora is very variable, so you take pot luck. She can write extremely well, but she doesn't always bother to.
"Same old, same old"
Pretty daft storyline of a previous family member burying treasure on the beach and lots of people trying to find it; while present day family deals with an ailing grandmother and false accusations of murder.
As always, I tried to work out who had "done it", and as usual remained wrong until the final couple of chapters.
Any Nora Roberts fans will enjoy this hugely.
"another great story"
twists and turns
Abra's story - can't say more as it will spoil the impact
