Publisher's summary

A family ranch in Big Sur country and a legacy of Hollywood royalty set the stage for Nora Roberts’ emotional new suspense novel, Hideaway.

Caitlyn Sullivan had come from a long line of Hollywood royalty, stretching back to her Irish immigrant great-grandfather. At nine, she was already a star - yet still an innocent child who loved to play hide-and-seek with her cousins at the family home in Big Sur. It was during one of those games that she disappeared.

Some may have considered her a pampered princess, but Cate was in fact a smart, scrappy fighter, and she managed to escape her abductors. Dillon Cooper was shocked to find the bloodied, exhausted girl huddled in his house - but when the teenager and his family heard her story, they provided refuge, reuniting her with her loved ones.

Cate’s ordeal, though, was far from over. First came the discovery of a shocking betrayal that would send someone she’d trusted to prison. Then there were years spent away in Western Ireland, peaceful and protected but with restlessness growing in her soul.

Finally, she would return to Los Angeles, gathering the courage to act again and get past the trauma that had derailed her life. What she didn’t yet know was that two seeds had been planted that long-ago night - one of a great love, and one of a terrible vengeance....

It’s never too late for a new beginning
I could listen to January LaVoy read a legal brief and still be captivated by her ability to breathe life into it—but she unequivocally brings her all to Nora Roberts’ latest thriller, Hideaway. She nails the distinct vocal styles of each character in this unpausable story of family, heartache, survival, and strength. Caitlyn Sullivan is a precocious and kindhearted child star from a dynasty of Hollywood actors, but her world turns upside down the day she’s kidnapped on the family’s property in Big Sur. Still, she doesn’t let the experience break her, and the listener follows along as Caitlyn matures into a successful voice actor (love that nod to audiophiles!), holding tight to those trusted connections she made long ago, despite a revenge plot boiling up around her. Badass females, a will-they-or-won’t-they romance, and Roberts’ signature edge-of-your-seat intensity round out this enthralling listen.

It was Meh

It was an okay story that dragged for a bit. I’ve heard better Nora Roberts books but I’ve also heard worse.

Too long, well read though

So much backstory, there’s barely anything left for the “mystery.” Not a bad book, but not a thriller really either. Wouldn’t buy it again, still worth a listen though.

Nora Roberts is one of my favorite authors

Great story, sorry it was over. Hope Nora continues to write for years to come. Not too crazy for her fantasy tales. Enjoy

Fantastic performance!

This was my first Nora Roberts book. Now I know why my wife devours them. The reader was fantastic. Perfect timing, inflection, even accurate accents and foreign language vocabulary. A real pleasure.

Wonderful!

I’ve been a fan of Nora Roberts for years. This book was unlike her others in that it spanned years of the main character’s life, from childhood to womanhood. It covered multiple relationships, families, and places. The narrator was beyond excellent! She not only used her voice to bring each person to life, but also accounted for their different ages throughout the years. I highly recommend this book!

A good read

I really liked this story and January LaVoy is an excellent reader. It reminded me of Nora's earlier books. The last several were too graphic for me to enjoy. This one had the right balance. The format put the main character in several parts of her life, which was interesting. My only criticism was it ended so abruptly. It needed an epilogue at least. It just finished - the end.
