Publisher's Summary

The New York Times best-selling author of Learning and Leaving shares a heartwarming Christmas story about a devastating flood, lost love, and the beauty of enduring friendships.

Molly Allen lives alone in Portland, but her heart is back in Franklin, Tennessee, where five years ago she walked away from a man she cannot forget, a rare sort of love she hasn’t found since.

Ryan Kelly lives in Franklin and spends plenty of time at The Bridge - the oldest bookstore in historic downtown Franklin - remembering the long hours he and Kelly once spent there.

Now, Ryan and Molly’s favorite bookstore is in trouble. For 30 years, Charlie and Donna Barton have run The Bridge, providing the people of middle Tennessee with coffee, conversation, and shelves of good books - even through dismal book sales and the rise of eBooks. Then in May a flood tore through Franklin and destroyed nearly every book in the store. By Christmastime, the bank threatens to pull the lease on The Bridge and is about to take the Bartons’ house as well. Despondent, Charlie considers ending his life. And in the face of tragedy, miracles begin to unfold.

"different reason for listening to a book"

First time author for me, my reasons for listening to this book are different than the norm. I was recently watching a Hallmark movie by the same name, 'The Bridge'. The story line on the movie was that a young couple was reunited after seven years. I'm watching the movie and they hadn't even broken up yet. The longer the movie goes on I'm thinking the reunion is going to be pretty short. Then right at the end of the movie a graphic comes up saying to be continued Christmas 2016' I decided I didn't want to wait that long and bought the book.

It's a fairly short book, 4 hours of listening, in print it must be like a novella. The Bridge itself is a bookstore and the owners have fallen on hard times. Many old customers come to the rescue, including the two the story is based on, and figure out what went wrong. It is a make you feel good kind of story. I'm glad I didn't wait a year.

"heart warming, make you smile book"
What did you love best about The Bridge?

This book was a pleasant surprise. I have "read" most of Karen Kingsbury's books and this is one of my favorites. The characters are well developed and I could relate to each one is some way. The book quickly draws you in and keeps you involved in these peoples lives. I am waiting for the next one in this series. I hope Karen writes it soon. Can't wait.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Maybe Charlie. I love how generous he is and how he focuses on people not money. His business way successful inspite of this focus.

    Any additional comments?

The prequel is worth the listen, either before of after this book.

"This should be listed under Christian literature."
Would you try another book from Karen Kingsbury and/or January LaVoy?

    No

What was most disappointing about Karen Kingsbury’s story?

The preachy nature of the book.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Story could have stood alone, without so many Christian references and ideals.

    "Heartwarming story. Performance only ok"

Story was sweet. Slightly differs from the hallmark movie version. (Doesn't it always?) the reader's performance of female voices was good, she aged her voice when speaking for different aged women. But for every male character, it was almost comical, toad-like. That was distracting from the story, but I wouldn't let that keep you from listening.

    "Enjoyable"

I found "The Bridge" to be quite an enjoyable addition to my collection. Having read many Karen Kingsbury books, it was a bit predictable. I still liked it though. Much better than the Hallmark movie.

    "eh"

I like Karen Kingsbury ' s books, but this wasn't my favorite. It was pretty predictable and I got annoyed at the characters for being stubborn.

    "Left me wanting more"

At first I was confused when the story jumped from Ryan and Molly to Charlie, but then came an understanding of how God works for the good to those who love Him. Great book but too short I wanted more. Narration was excellent.
