Publisher's summary

The world’s oceans are no longer safe.

Mysterious alien invaders have conquered two-thirds of the earth’s surface—its oceans—and now nations are reeling from the savage attacks that have struck every shore. Los Angeles and Washington DC are war zones.

The survival of the United States depends on heroes.

Among them are a grizzled Army veteran who pilots his ASHUR in defense of the nation’s capital, a brilliant analyst who works feverishly to unravel the secrets of the invaders, and the bold and daring officers of the US Navy, battered from below yet seeking to salvage victory from the jaws of defeat.

Yet some of the unlikeliest of heroes are the people who emerge from the shadows of everyday life to fight for their very survival as the alien incursion carves deeper into the continental coastlines.

Fighting in the currents is hard enough. Fighting the riptides is even harder....

Most Fun Alien Invasion in Years

The combat turned up a notch in this one.
Both in how much combat and in the descriptions, Blaine did a fantastic job of making this invasion feel world spanning and personal.
Lots of good character development, if you had told me the child character was gonna be in my 3 favs I woulda called you a liar.

Great Read

A great book, takes the world building of the first book and runs with it. I look forward to more in the Land and Sea series.

Tom Clancy, but with mechs.

Worthy. Five stars across the board. I recommend.
The author took the story to a more complex story without getting distracted. I was like reading a Tom Clancy book, with mechs.

Give me Moaar Fishliens

This book was exactly what I expected from it. Nothing less. It was all of our characters from the first book living in this war-torn universe. I look forward to the next story!

Another entry in an amazing series!!

This series of books has come out of no where and introduced me to a new world of intriguing characters. I am fascinated by the technological aspect of the battle armor used and hope that we can learn more about it in the future.
This is a title I would definitely recommend to anyone who is looking for a new series to read.

The action begins.

Book 2 starts off a bit slow still setting up the world of this IP. However; unlike book 1 the action starts up much quicker and keeps it going till the end.

We see much more ASHUR use, variety, and how they operate. Each of the main characters get ample story arc development, and chances to shine. With the exception of one character I'm really interested in where they end up.

While the book keeps the focus on the primary characters, this book starts to bring in POV of some of the other nations in play. I liked seeing the different ways the Russians, Japanese, and English fight this new threat.

My only real grip is the marine Natalia.

Spoilers:

She came off as too much of the cliche tough girl put in many books. It didn't bother me too much at 1st. I've become biased against such characters from other stories, so try to see pass my initial gut reaction of dislike.

Being a generally good at all things marine is a bit boring, but all in all not inconceivable. It just really rubbed me wrong when in this book she confronts and seriously beats a man in hand to hand combat. Perhaps I missed a description of her being a unusually large and well built women, but I was under the impression she wasn't physically way out of norm for a women. When she picks a fight with a large muscled marine man, and easily beats him with no, I repeat no, injuries taken I call foul. I feel there were other ways it could have been written where she still obtains authority and respect.

That rant done, I can look past it since the rest of the story is as good as it is. I even enjoy the general story line centered around Natalia. The mystery of the experiments being done on her and the other POWs could have great story pay off later on.
