Publisher's summary

The future isn’t what they expected.

A company of Army Rangers is sent on an interstellar colony ship to secure a foothold on a dangerous, alien planet through violence of action. Leaving behind a warring Earth flung headfirst into a conflict of mutual assured destruction, the Rangers and the accompanying crew of first colonists are guided on a 40-year journey by an unprecedented artificial intelligence.

But when they emerge from the frigid embrace of cryosleep, they awake to a nightmare, finding themselves greeted by the same ruthless enemy that brought about the ruin of Earth. Alone on a dangerous, alien planet and with no hope of rescue or relief, the military colonists are forced to finish the war they thought they’d left behind. And in an unknown galaxy, friends and enemies alike prove to be much more than they seem.

Wayward Galaxy is an explosive military science-fiction adventure featuring defective AIs, valorous soldiers, a brilliant scientist, and gritty combat written by Jason Anspach (Associated Press best seller and cocreator of Galaxy’s Edge) and J.N. Chaney (USA Today best seller and author of the Renegade series).

tops galaxy's edge

this is basically Galaxy's Edge without being over the top. it was kind of fun to have a robot AI with an 1980s personality. overall great. cannot wait until the next book.

Set aside for a most consuming listen!

I have listened to over 600 Audio Books over the years most we're well done, few were really excellent. The collaboration of Anspach, Chaney and R.C. Bray hit the ranks of the nonperiel (sp?). The storyline is both entertaining, gripping and at times humorous (BRODY).
Hopefully there'll be a next installment..please fellas!

Brody is my spirit AI!

This book had everything I ever wanted in a story! 80's movies references that would make the actual 80's shed a tear, iRobots at their best, and that love of death and destruction that only a malfunctioning AI could pull off! I didn't want to stop once I started.

Better than crack!

R.C. Bray at his finest alpha male narration duties again. I don’t know, it never seems to get old. Let me tell you how it normally goes when you get a title narrated by Mr Bray. The story either matches his style perfectly and somehow magic is made! Or his style makes a bad story somehow better. Which one is this going to be?

I thought about keeping you in tension and drawing the answer out… but then decided stuff it! This one is just great, it is one of those one’s in which his style has found the perfect story!

This is one of those titles in which there is a perfect mix of tension. Enough to keep me guessing and not enough to make it so stressful I don’t want to know. I kept on wanting to know is this time travel? Aliens? Cyborg thing? An enemy within? Or all of the above and then some more!

The military component gives me shades of ‘Master Gunnery Sergeant Flick’ from Michael Stephen’s ‘Arisen’ series, which R.C. Bray also narrated. There is also a strong element of Craig Alanson’s ‘Expeditionary Force’. Honestly, it feels as though the author has collected all the best parts of books narrated by RC Bray and put them together. Creating the perfect storm for this poor broke listener wanting to escape reality for some small portion of the day. It is so good I had to work really hard at not listening to it while working. I could if I wanted to, but the work would have distracted me from the story!

Those of us who look closely at the $ per hour rating, will be pleased. Because this title is nearly 13 hours long. I hate wasting a credit on anything which I can listen to in just a couple of commutes.

I’ll won’t give away any plot. I will just conclude with PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS GOOD LET THERE BE MORE!

Breath of fresh air

That book is amazing. This book is sharing the top3 most favorite audible series with Expeditionary Force and Undying Mercenaries. Very interesting and multi-dimensional story. I love AI´s in this book.

Can't wait for the next one :)

Clever name for the AI 🙄

The name of the AI gave my home system a nervous breakdown. I had to use headphones even though I’m the only one in the house. Other than that, I enjoyed the story and the narration was superb as expected.

Stunning

Absolutely amazing book, I was enthralled from start to finish. These writers and Bob always do amazing works or art but this one was beyond anything I’ve heard so far.
