Publisher's summary

Discover how joyful and fulfilling this life-changing diagnosis can be--for your child and your family.

Nothing prepares you for the news that your child has autism.

You may have seen the signs, noticed some behaviors, and wondered....

But getting the confirmation can still evoke feelings of sadness and shock.

Your vision of how your family would be looks entirely different from what now awaits you.

Your dreams for your child’s future may no longer seem possible.

It’s perfectly understandable that you would feel worried, discouraged, and completely lost at this point.

But it doesn’t have to stay this way.

In fact, this diagnosis is the starting point for helping you better understand and support your child.

Knowing that your child has a unique way of interacting with the world around them makes you better equipped to manage their stresses and make their surroundings more comfortable.

As their parent, you can do a lot to ensure their safety, advocate for their welfare, and make sure your child can live a happy, healthy, and productive life--and this guide will break it all down for you.

In Raising Your Child With Autism, here is just a fraction of what you will discover:

  • A comprehensive action plan for parents who are just coming to terms with their child’s autism diagnosis.
  • Why autism is not something you have to hide, fix, or overcome.
  • How to recognize signs of stress and respond to your child’s behavior– sometimes all they need is for someone to understand.
  • The truth behind widely held beliefs about autism that are not only misguided, but may even be dangerous.
  • How you can still interact and communicate with your child, even if they’re nonverbal.
  • How to help your other children adjust to their sibling’s unique needs while making sure they don’t feel neglected.
  • Why being an obsessive notetaker and record keeper is going to be highly useful in caring for your child.
  • How to ensure your child’s quality of life and ongoing care long after you’re no longer able to do it yourself.
  • Government services, benefits, and other financial resources you should access to support your child’s educational and medical needs.
  • Valuable resources for information, support, and assistance for families dealing with autism.

And much more.

You only want the best for your child, and worrying and obsessing over what you should and shouldn’t be doing is normal.

It can sometimes feel like you’re doing too much and not enough for your child simultaneously.

But what your child needs most of all is a parent who loves them and is there for them–and you are this parent.

So don’t be too hard on yourself. Just continue providing them with the love, support, and guidance they need. You, your child, and the rest of your family will keep learning along the way.

Planning to raise autistic children.

Sometimes it is not tolerable to have such a child whose view of looking at the world is beyond children of his age. Having an autistic child is one of those non-tolerable feelings for some parents.

When I listened to this book I totally felt love with the author because she motivates the parents very well so that they can realise how to make a productive life for their child.

Plus, she also plays a major role in removing the darkness and feeling of being ashamed of having an autistic child through her words, which makes their lives easier too. I highly recommend this book not to parents having children with autistic but for all people, so that they can also change their views on autistic children.

Grounding & Empowering

"Why fit in when you were born to stand out?" ~ Dr. Seuss.

I love that the whole audiobook starts with this. The author relates with you right away, and invites you to the fold of many parents who are navigating the waters together. You are not alone. And there is so much great stuff ahead.

The book is filled with encouragement in the form of wisdom, statistics, and anecdotes. It's also overflowing with specific strategies, pitfalls to avoid, tips to excel, myths to bust ... it connects you to the right resources and people ... and teaches you to care for yourself so you can care for your loved ones.

I'm so glad I found this book. Though I don't fit the demographic specifically, I have loved ones who do. And I am very grateful for what I've got here in this audiobook!

I needed this!

I have a grandson who is autistic and have never been able to figure out why he does not like loud noises, strange places and prefers to just stay at home with his video games. He is such a sweet young man, but I needed this education to understand him. There is a plethora of information in this book and so much I did not know. I especially like the chapter on setting him up financially for when his parents are no longer on this earth. I can help my daughter do that. I will treasure this wealth of information for a long time and share it with my daughter. Thank you Ms. Talbott for writing this wonderful resource!

It is very relevant.

As a volunteer in my community, I meet some angels who have their own little world. Some of them love to eat the same breakfast every day, and some of them like to stay under the same tree and spend hours watching the ants. They are called autistic. I chose to read this book thoroughly because I wanted to know more about this group of children. They may always be silent, but some of them have great artistic talent. They can create very fanciful paintings, and they can learn to play on the piano very quickly after hearing music. This book gave me a more systematic understanding of how to go about getting along with autistic children. The author of this book has done a great job and this book has very insightful advice on how to truly understand autism and how to care for a child with autism. If you need it, please don't hesitate, this book is worth it.

Compassionate insights

The author does an incredible job of proving this dynamic as something not only positive for your family, but for your life as a parent overall. Instead of focusing on how some might consider this challenging, they instead frame it as an opportunity, breaking down strategies for guiding children with autism through life, and how it help you gain deeper empathy and understanding for humanity at large. Wonderful guidance.
