A Faith Based Perspective of Modern Mental Health

Mental Illness & Christianity brings the dialogue of God into contemporary issues and ideas of mental illness, offering these complex and difficult to understand concepts through a Christian lense. I appreciated the positioning of "faith" as a foundational salve for much of the issues as discussed today, as often a connection to spirit can help relieve mental and emotional imbalances, including addiction. Would recommend to anyone trying to figure out how these new concepts and concerns fit into a Christian perspective, and are wanting to navigate this territory.

This is an interesting book about mental illness and Christianity. It is told from the viewpoint of Christianity. Even though it isn’t always widely discussed, mental illness is present throughout the world. This includes people involved with Christianity. Mental illness affects people from all walks of life. This is a great resource for anyone wanting to learn more about mental illness and Christianity.

Excellent book!

I enjoyed this book so much that I listened to it twice. It has helped me identify types of mental illness through the power of the Scripture and God. I like how the author paraphrases from the bible to make them clear and support the points being made. I particularly enjoyed the chapter on how the devil influences mental illnesses such as narcissism and additions, how people are turned away from God, and how it leads them down a destructive path.

I gained a lot of value from the teaching on how to deal with people with mental illnesses from a Christian point of view. Such as when to try and introduce them to the way of life and when to walk away and let God carry out his plan for them. For anyone Christain or those wanting to embrace God into their life, I would highly recommend listening to this book.

Very helpful !

This audiobook talks about the fact that many people's habits and troubles are often due to their own actions. In our world today, a lot of us are focused on finding happiness and pleasure for ourselves, and because of this, we sometimes make choices that aren't so good. The author is very open about her own experiences with this, which helps to make the book feel more related. Many people don't understand what's wrong with their actions because they haven't been taught any better. The author uses verses from the Bible to explain their ideas, which fits really well. This book isn't like other books; it can help you heal spiritually and understand yourself better. This is a great resource for any individuals who believe in God.

It is greatly-written

God is always there for us, no need to doubt. God will help all the good people who need help and help you to get out of trouble and get a new life. I always go through each day with a kind, forgiving heart. There are many people in the world who live with misfortune, resentment, and violence, and I try to consider the Christian view of mental illness and treatment as a way to help all people gain peace of mind.

Supportive and charismatic! Amazing book

Two subjects I simply love. Relationship with Jesus, and mental health. The author was quite compassionate throughout the book. I related so much to this work! The approach is humanitarian and real, which makes it less religious, and more approachable to the readers and listeners. Very supportive and encouraging to face mental disorders, with the reality we have to face in this life. P.s.: I agree, not all Christian songs are enjoyable to hear. Nothing wrong with not liking some of them. It's just about the rhythm, not the context itself, I think.

Biblically authoritative without being “preachy.”

The author is wisdom teacher of the Christian bible. She provides Christian fundamentalists an authoritative basis for their beliefs without being “preachy.” I especial liked her take that giving up control to God does not mean just letting things happen. As a Christian you are meant to take an active role in life and actually live your principals.
Our secular society desires to replace God with itself as controller of your mind, Just like a god of revenge, this new “secular” god uses fear and intimidation to get its way. When you are taught that your life ends with the death of the body, you are easier for them to control. Today, it becomes imperative to know what you believe and why. Our individual morals, ethics and spirituality is under constant attack as irrational and faith in God unfounded. Society’s so called leaders and rulers know that an individual’s spirituality and belief in an afterlife is a major stumbling block in their ability to manipulate and control their subjects with fear.
Although this is a “Christian Bible based book”, it is interesting that so many successful anti-addiction programs and spiritual traditions also place such a strong emphasis an placing yourself under control of a higher power, whatever that term may mean to you. I feel more confident in letting go and letting a higher spiritual power direct me. It is that faith that transform the “why me God?” question to “Try me God.” In challenging situations, can I demonstrate the principles I have freely chosen to guide my life within this world of seeming hate and fear.
If a Christian fundamentalist, this book can help providing that firm foundation and answer the question of why “bad” things happen and who is your neighbor.

You are not alone....

You are told that so many times during recovery, but something really hit home with this book. It was refreshing to hear things from someone else's story. No judgment, yet so many similarities. I usually stay away from books with a religious backing, however, this one was different and I am glad I had the opportunity to listen to it.

See people the way God sees them

This book gives you a way to interpret the suffering and the pain and the brokenness around you - to see what God wants to do with the difficult relationships he's brought your way. The author shows you that mental illness is not a new thing to God. He knew about people's pain and he spoke about it. Here, you are reminded to point people to real help.
