Publisher's summary

You are cordially invited to my fake wedding.

Marrying Beckett Coleman is the best idea I've had in years. I can grant my sick dad’s wish to walk one of his daughters down the aisle, and Beckett has my help solving a custody situation with his daughter. Our plan is to spend a year together, then part ways. Easy, especially since I'm not his type, and he's not mine either.

He’s too quiet and too serious. And while he’s distractingly gorgeous, he’s also my brother’s teammate. Beckett is fake husband material, not the real deal. I just have to remember that.

Until I move in with him. Get to know him. Share a bed with him. Turns out, the line between fake and real isn't just blurry, it's almost impossible to uphold when he looks at me the way he does.

This marriage is a whole lot more complicated than we bargained for. We’re threatening to destroy everything we’ve built, something neither of us can risk.

Marrying Beckett might’ve been the best idea in years. But falling in love with him would be the worst.

Never been a slower burn!

Never been a slower burn! Soooooooooooo darned slow! Slow burn stories can frustrate me but this story was incredible. And ALL the tropes: fake marriage, brother's best friend, sports hero, opposites attract, forced proximity. The hero (Beckett) was incredible. To paraphrase the heroine (Greer), men like him don't exist.
Add in the family dynamics (love those Wilders) including a serious(terminal) illness for a beloved family member and an adorable little girl, and this book gives you ALL the feels!
I will complain about the fact that I lost a bunch of sleep because of this one because I just couldn't stop listening to it! :-D
Hoping Parker's story is next and it also promises to be a heartbreaker! Thank God we know there's a HEA coming or I couldn't handle all these emotions!

Great story!!

Love the angst, very well written so you truly feel what the characters are going through. Beautiful performances by Samantha Brentmoor and Chris Brinkley.

A favorite of all times read!!

The book… incredible…. The audiobook…. Amazing!!!

Karla Sorenson is one of my favorite authors. She writes beautiful stories of complex real people. Only she can write fake marriage with two logical people and make it believable! Greer and Beckett’s story is one of 2 people who love hard.
They are so different but the core of them is the same.
This slow burn is fantastic. I couldn’t put it down.
Seeing their POV throughout the book, how the are drawn to each other. Beckett is so protective but quiet. Greer is just as protective but she fights differently for those she loves.
I love the Wilder family and cannot wait for more.
This is a top 2023 read for me and goes into my favorite all time books.
It was real. It is a beautiful story of loving those in your like no matter what. And I’ve got so many highlights… it’s a must read!

I love the story line. Now I wanna know what happens to the rest of the children? I would like to see this a series, seven books seven children.

Single dad, fake marriage, opposites attract romance

3.5 stars! One and Only is the latest contemporary romance from Karla Sorensen. This is a standalone but does tie into her previous books, The Crush and The Plan, which also feature characters from the Wilder family. I didn’t read those before this one and didn’t feel lost though! This one I was excited for, as it has a ton of tropes I love: single dad hero, sports romance (he plays football, although I’d say it’s very light on sports), fake relationship/fake marriage, opposites attract, and forced proximity!

We meet Greer Wilder when the story starts. She’s doing a bit of multitasking at a restaurant, she’s both interviewing/looking for a potential for a fake husband and meeting with a client for her interior design business. Her dad is sick and dying and one of his dreams is to walk a daughter down the aisle, so Greer wants to make that a reality. Her brothers are pro football players and one of them gave her contact info to a teammate who needs a child’s room decorated for his young daughter. Enter Beckett! Greer and Beckett meet when she’s between possible fake marriage candidates and they quickly go over the plans for decorating a room for his 6-year old daughter Olive. While leaving Beckett overhears Greer discussing her plans/needs for a fake husband and gets a little intrigued.

Later Beckett sees how well Greer does with his shy daughter and decides to jump on offering himself up to Greer as a fake husband, it’ll help her and also help him with showing his ex that he’s capable of caring for their daughter that they coparent. I did really like the healthy coparent relationship that Beckett has with his daughter’s mother.

I especially loved the Wilder family dynamics and seeing how Greer’s family so fully envelopes Beckett and Olive into their lives. The fake marriage happens quickly and falls into place, but then the romance was slow burn. The ending did feel a bit rushed and while I enjoyed this one and thought it was a really easy, low angst read, it also just didn’t super pull me in or captivate me. Still solid and I do always enjoy Karla Sorensen books! I do want to go back and read the other books that tie into this!
