Publisher's summary

If you are an adult child of a narcissistic mother, this audiobook is for you, and if you are not sure whether your abusive mother is a pathological narcissist, you will find out.

If you listen to this audiobook:

  • You will become aware of all the reasons why your childhood was so traumatic.
  • You will learn how to deal with your narcissistic mother without being her victim any longer.
  • You will find out all dysfunctional beliefs and habits that you developed during your childhood.
  • You will learn how to contrast Complex Traumatic Stress Disorder symptoms.

The issue of toxic mothers challenges the status quo in so many ways but does need to be addressed. Adult children of narcissistic parents are often plagued with so much guilt and sense of deep obligation and shame that they feel duty-bound to keep whatever happened in the family secret, even when it is shredding their lives. It’s really difficult to share your experience because narcissists, and especially a narcissistic mother, can be very good at creating the perfect image of the family for outsiders.

The solution is not forgiving or forgetting, but understanding and working on your self-development, and finally taking back control of your life.

Even if you were born in the wrong place, growing up dealing with an abusive mother, you can leave the past behind and build a better future by taking control of your life. This audiobook is a painful path of awareness, but it is also the first step of a journey toward a better life.

devastatingly profound

I've been healing from my childhood for 15 years, this book gave great insight into my pain. Over and over again I was able to identify myself, my siblings, and my mother. I cried at the accuracy. I highly recommend this read for anyone who even thinks this could be helpful. I caution them to read slowly and take notes. Be prepared for the emotions that accompany this book. If you're listening to this book, the narration is staccato and robotic, but with time becomes less annoying.

Exceptional resource for victims of a narcissistic mother

This was the single-best resource in allowing myself to develop a greater understanding of the dynamic between my ex-boyfriend and his narcissistic mother. It put so many things into a perspective that allowed me to finally make sense of it all, and obtain the closure I needed from my past relationship. It was at times a bit unsettling to listen to the author so accurately describe situations I have experienced and witnessed during my past 5 year relationship.. (the description of the feeling of another mistress being in the room whenever we were in the presence of my ex-boyfriend’s mother was especially relatable). I strongly recommended this audiobook to any adult child of an NPD mother, or to any significant other of an adult child that was raised by a narcissistic mother.

evolution of mental disorders

I really enjoyed this book. I could see how men that I've encountered are mentally confused about their mothers and have grouped all women into one category especially those that come from single parent homes. I see alot of these behaviors in students (teens). I enjoyed how Foster broke down the two types of narcissist and the behaviors that they exhibit
