Publisher's summary

The second book in the DI Eva Harris series, this is a gripping, multi-layered thriller that will keep listeners on the edge of their seats.

In an abandoned warehouse, a schoolboy makes a grisly discovery: 96 containers, each filled with exquisitely preserved bodily remains.

Detective Eva Harris knows the line between life and death better than most. Having survived a near fatal encounter with the criminal underworld once before, she is still haunted by the repercussions of her actions - and fearful of the whole truth emerging.

Faced with the crime scene, she is forced to contemplate a difficult question: is this the work of a lone psychopath - or is there a more complicated truth hidden in this killer’s art?

Her search for the killer takes her across Europe, from the upper echelons of society’s glittering elite to the dark and tangled web of the underworld - and finally, to the very limits of humanity.

Outstanding entertainment

20/20 and Lifesign taken together get my vote for best new detective series. The detail, particularly regarding medical devices and technology are spot on, the character and background of Eva are drawn with realistic care, the plots developed extraordinarily well. Narration is first rate. hoping for a third book!

Waiting for book 3

I’ve read both books using Audible. The performance is great, the writing is so good I lack words. The character is engaging, the story lines are detailed and complex, and the entire package leaves the reader wanting more. With science and humanism and hedonism and morality and justice examined in detail, this book gives pure pleasure in the read/listen. Brealey not only does Goodmans work Justice, she becomes another character in the story by pulling the reader in, and orchestrating deeper emotional responses. Thanks to you both!

Love this series!

This is book 2, and 20/20 should be read 1st. Now I’d like books 3-6 to binge listen!

Great books. “Multilayered” doesn’t begin to describe it. There are so many threads here, and they’re handled so deftly, that it’s just a wild ride.

It’s also thought provoking, and interesting at a deep level. Science, philosophy, futurism, crime, and punishment, all come under scrutiny.

Intriguing, interesting, and wildly entertaining. I hope this series continues.

Almost Tedious

I really enjoyed Book 1. And was excited to start book two. But this wasn't the same experience. Started off well, but It became bogged down with all the science. At times I was just bored. And finally I just wanted it finished. It seemed longer than 13 hours to me. If the series continues in the Plus catalog, Ill give the next a try as I find DI Eva Harris compelling.

I listened at 1.3 speed.

Intelligent, excellent writing...but

Wonderful narrator--her voice is sooo pretty, and character differentiation is excellent. However, a LOT of unnecessary swearing, more than Book 1. Too much. Please stop using Jesus Christ's name as a swear word. It's very offensive. (Swearing is never necessary IMO). Character development excellent and interesting.

This too was an intelligent book. But this plot too was somewhat one-dimensional--only work related. Never got a glimpse of the characters' present day personal life; same as the first book. I skipped a chapter due to descriptive gore.

3 stars off for swearing b/c this book had much more than the first.

Best Thriller I've Ever Heard

Rare for me to give 5 stars to a thriller but for the genre it's well deserved. Still can't believe Carl Goodman's books were free from Audible. I'd have gladly paid. This book is the follow-up to his book 20/20 and I encourage you to read them in order. I hope these books were offered to sway people to buy an upcoming book. If there's one coming out I'll be first in line. Great characters, plenty of action in a compelling story and the perfect amount of interesting information and facts that prove the author does his research. I feared something that happened towards the end was going to ruin it for me but Mr Goodman is clearly an animal lover. Louise Brealey is the perfect reader for both books.
