Publisher's summary

A cryptic murder pulls a former soldier turned financial analyst deep into the corruption and menace that prowl beneath the opulent world of finance, in #1 New York Times bestselling author David Baldacci’s new thriller.

Every day without fail, Travis Devine puts on a cheap suit, grabs his faux-leather briefcase, and boards the 6:20 commuter train to Manhattan, where he works as an entry-level analyst at the city’s most prestigious investment firm. In the mornings, he gazes out the train window at the lavish homes of the uberwealthy, dreaming about joining their ranks. In the evenings, he listens to the fiscal news on his phone, already preparing for the next grueling day in the cutthroat realm of finance. Then one morning Devine’s tedious routine is shattered by an anonymous email: She is dead.

Sara Ewes, Devine’s coworker and former girlfriend, has been found hanging in a storage room of his office building—presumably a suicide, at least for now—prompting the NYPD to come calling on him. If that wasn’t enough, before the day is out, Devine receives another ominous visit, a confrontation that threatens to dredge up grim secrets from his past in the army unless he participates in a clandestine investigation into his firm. This treacherous role will take him from the impossibly glittering lives he once saw only through a train window, to the darkest corners of the country’s economic halls of power . . . where something rotten lurks. And apart from this high-stakes conspiracy, there’s a killer out there with their own agenda, and Devine is the bull’s-eye.

A new Baldacci exmilitary protagonist…

Travis Devine is the newest character in (hopefully new series) David Baldacci’s most recent novel. A former Army Ranger who left after doing something he felt was the right thing but knew if discovered he could face a court martial.
After retiring he chose to get an MBA and was lucky enough to get an entry level job at a prestigious investment firm.
One morning he receives an email from a return address that doesn’t conform to any email he’s ever seen. It tells him of an apparent suicide of a coworker, mentor and girlfriend for a very short time. It soon becomes obvious that this wasn’t a suicide but a murder. Travis believes it was the murderer who sent him that email.
The Feds believe the company he’s working for is into something corrupt. They pressure Travis into investigating her death and hopefully digging up something they can use against the firm. What Travis finds is that someone there is trying to frame him. Luckily the timing of events do not exactly add up.
The suspense is exhilarating. This is fast paced with twists and turns throughout. This book has my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!
The three narrators work well together. They all gave believable performances.

One of His Best!!

David Baldacci has long been one of my favorite authors. I have read all his books over the years and my only wish is that he wrote faster. I started reading his books with the Camel Club and then read the older books before getting to his other series. Some may not be as good as others but they consistently are better then most authors.

The 6:20 Man was a awesome read from beginning to end. I finished listening to it in less then 24 hours, enjoying every minute of it. Great plot and characters with no unbelievable fluff. Travis Devine I hope has many, many more adventures in in store for him. He is my most favorite character since Oliver Stone. He is talented without being unbelievable. I hope others enjoy The 6:20 man as much as I did.

The Travis Divine character has series potential!

Travis Divine has hero potential. His military background previews as having loads of competence and mystery. And most of the mystery has been left available for future novels to unravel. He's well educated, well built, curious and strong minded. His gravitas earns immediate attention in any gathering. This novel is worth a read, but it leaves one with an unfulfilled appetite for more from Travis Divine. He can rumble with the worst, hold his own with the brainiacs and charm the undies off the ladies. Any mystery writer would love to have a character profile like that to work with.

And for my taste, the multiple readers are always very helpful.
Cheers, Ken

Twists and turns galore!

Excellent plot line, well written, great read. I wish they’d make it into a movie, as almost every female and male character were written as gorgeous. I suggest Danny DeVito as Valentine!

Baldacci at his best

Another great novel by my favorite author, couldn't stop reading till the end. A surprise ending, just like most of his stories. Ever since I read his first novel, I've enjoyed & looked forward to his next suspense, he didn't let me down. Any one who has read his past books, won't be disappointed. Can't wait till his next book is published & distributed. Thank you, Sir, for your many years of enjoyed reading.

Easy to listen to

Often I get so tired of hearing a sentence followed by “ she said”. Ugh
This book doesn’t do that. The author has enough confidence in us, the reader, to be able to distinguish who is talking without he saiding and she saiding us into a stupor.
Thanks. I really enjoyed it for a change!

New Classic

I loved early Baldacci, but some of his recent efforts weren't great. However, for this it's obvious he dug deeper and tried harder to craft a great story... and he succeeded brilliantly. Many people don't realize how difficult that is. But this one's splendid. Well done, David!
