Publisher's summary

The new Joe Dillard novel.

A young girl vanishes without a trace in the dead of night.

Was her menacing absentee father involved? Or did something even more sinister occur?

In the 10th installment of the best-selling Joe Dillard series, Joe finds himself turning 50 and on the brink of despair. His involvement in his law practice has tapered to the point of near retirement. He spends his days with his wife, Caroline, who is finally succumbing to the ravages of cancer after a decade-long battle. His son, Jack, is struggling with alcohol abuse and self-loathing after accidentally killing a young mother while protecting the woman he hopes to marry. Joe is nearing the end of his rope.

When the girl goes missing, Joe learns she is a member of Jack’s little league team. Her disappearance derails his already teetering son and starts a ticking clock. If she’s not found within 48 hours, the chances of recovering her alive dwindle to nearly zero. Joe knows this, so Caroline charges him with finding her.

As the investigation ramps up, law enforcement quickly zeroes in on a likely perpetrator. The identity of the prime suspect hits closer to home than Joe could have possibly imagined, adding frantic urgency to his quest to find the girl.

“Pratt’s richly developed characters are vivid and believable, especially the strong Southern women who fight their male-dominated culture from behind a façade of vulnerability.” (Publishers Weekly)

It was worth the wait.

A great ending to the series, I found Scott Pratt on my kindle unlimited and loved all the books. He published more as I learned of his real life wife illness. Then the sadness of both of their passing. Appreciate his son completing his dad's work.

Family

I am going to kiss the Dillard family. I have been invested in their stories for months now and am sad to see them go.

Wonderful!!!!

I have enjoyed the entire Joe Dillard collection and hate that this is the last book. Dylan your dad would be so proud of how you finished his story.

Excellent Story; Sad for Series to End

It is amazing how us readers were able to get a much needed conclusion to the Joe Dillard series after Scott’s untimely death. I think he is looking down and so proud his legacy was honored and continued. While the story made me cry; it was well written and perfectly narrated. It had so many twists and turns, right up to the end. It also reinforced that the characters like real life are not perfect human beings but will do what it takes to protect those we love. Highly recommend reading this series from the beginning but can be a standalone book since it reminds us of the backstories and relationships among the diverse cast of characters.

Dillard family legend lives on

What’s not to like? If you have followed Joe Dillard from the first novel as I have, this is a continuation of the intense commitment to law and order.

I’m sad that the family dynamics changes. You could see it coming. But I hope the Dillards just build another strong branch on the family tree and continues with the legend Joe and Sarah started years ago.

I truly hope this is no the last book in the series.

Great series

I just finished the 10th book in the series and it’s really really good.
This is the first set of books from Scott Pratt, that I have read before and I really enjoyed it. Also, the narration was excellent.

Story subject was difficult to hear.

I don’t always read what the story will be about beforehand. Ive read the entire Joe Dillard series and loved them all. I also expected some violence. I suppose there is no way to write a story about child sex trafficking without some level of discomfort on the readers end, or even memories of your own as a child being groomed or violated. But in my opinion parts of this story were just too vile. I wondered if Jeffery Epstien’s crimes were similar. As my husband and I listened there were parts he refused to listen to. On the good side, I loved the narrator and his many voices. Then ending with Leon was epic! Please continue to write legal dramas as you have a clear talent with character development and keeping our expectations always on edge. Maybe a woman lawyer who was once in prison and knows the game better than the Ivy league apprentices???

Love The Series!

Being a Jonesborough local added to my love of the stories but the characters were well written and the stories lots of fun.
Glad that it was wrapped up tight. I know that Scott is with beloved wife now - will sure miss him.
