Publisher's summary

Can I really trust a dragon with my heart?

When I show up in Black Claw with bruises on my face and a split lip, I’m not looking for another man. I’ve made enough bad choices in that department. I’m ready to lie low with my best friend and pray to god that my ex doesn’t come to find me. But Axel isn’t like any of the guys I’ve been drawn to before.

I’m not ready for a new relationship. I know that. But Axel sneaks inside my heart before I’ve even realized he’s there, and his touch sets my body alight with desire. But still, there’s something off about him. And when I find out his secret, I’m not sure I can stand the heat.

If my human ex was terrible, could a dragon be any better? He says it’s fate. Still...I’m scared to risk my heart again. But when danger comes knocking, I know Axel’s the one I need to protect me. If my human ex was terrible, could a dragon be any better? He says it’s fate. Still, I’m scared to risk my heart again.

But when danger comes knocking, I know Axel’s the one I need to protect me.

Great paranormal romance

This author and series continues to impress me! The story primarily picks up where we left off with book one, with an appreciated glimpse back to fill in the details as to why Charlotte found her way to the Kingston’s home. Axel recognizes his fated mate immediately, but realizes that Charlotte has been through a traumatic experience and learning about dragon shifters and fated mates may just be too much for her, allowing her the space she needs. Charlotte on the other hand, very much attracted to Axel, knows that a new relationship is not what she needs after the raw hand she’d been dealt. What I love about this author’s storytelling is that the romance isn’t rushed. She blends real life situations into a fantasy world, and the characters are extremely down-to-earth making it feel all that more genuine, even if we are talking about dragons! Axel was every bit the protector of Charlotte, but he was also so thoughtful and sweet… handling her physically and emotionally with the upmost care and respect. Charlotte had a very flirty and feminine personality, and even though she was the damsel in distress, she reciprocated the hospitality of her friends and regained her courage and footing quite quickly when it came to meeting Asher. Her reaction was quite comical! This was my first listen by narrator, Melanie Hastings. I really enjoyed her male voices, but it took a few chapters for her female voices to grow on me, especially Charlotte’s. The performance was very well done though, and I could distinguish between characters which is always a plus with dialogue.

Why Charlotte???

I liked Charlotte much better in the first book. In this one she's exceedingly immature and a hot mess. What a skeevy creep Logan was. I applaud her for finally leaving her abusive ex. Obviously Charlotte was a very poor judge of character noted from all her previous men!! Axel should have told her sooner, but she lacked the common sense of a knat. She got real lucky! A higher power watches over children and idiot. so Charlotte is covered. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a good job.

Tender Hero!

I really enjoy the Roxie Ray stories! I found Axel such a dreamy and sweet character. Loved his complete devotion to his fated mate. Of course you can't have romance without drama and mess, and Roxie Ray did it well, I thought. I laughed so hard at the scene where Charlotte learns Axel is a dragon. I could totally see it in my mind, and I loved it. I think Melanie Hastings did a great job with all the character differentiation. Her men were masculine without seeming forced. Her women were feminine and reflective of their characters. Yes. Charlotte is a bit needy and flawed. I thought Hastings captured that well. The books in this series have different narrators. Usually that's not great, as a listener. But in the case of this series, I do think it works just fine. Keep them coming, Roxie!

Entertaining!

This is the second book in the Black Claw Dragons Series. This is a Series of interconnected stories. This is another great story in the series. Axel and Charlotte's story is entertaining, and fast-paced. Melanie Hastings did a good job with the narration. Looking forward to listen to Her Dragon Lover, the next book in the Series. #AudiobookObsession

Magnificent story!

I have to start off by saying that Roxie Ray is becoming one of my favorite authors. Her books are extremely well written with fascinating details of the characters and storyline.
This story has action, adventure, intrigue, suspense and romance. I definitely love shifter series and Roxie doesn’t disappoint. I loved listening to this audiobook and her book become more interesting with each new story.
The narrator does a fantastic job with the characters and voices of each character which makes it easy to distinguish between the characters. She also does a great job with the male and female voices. I am looking forward to hearing Melanie tell the stories she make the characters come alive.
I definitely recommend this audiobook!!!!

Pretty good.

felt like the dragons could have been more involved.

felt like the narrator's female voice was way to high pitched and faked.

felt like the finale scene with the antagonist was rushed and anticlimactic.

wished for more details about the couple's future together.

overall eh.

The book was ok

The story droned on for a bit and the reader did not fit the character at all but a good storyline
