Publisher's summary

Eric McCaffrey has come face-to-face with the developers of Battlegrounds Online. They have shown up at his doorstep. He's used to seeing those faces in the game, not inside his apartment. He knew the game had been physically affecting him. Turns out he was right, and Hastech wants to run some tests. Battlegrounds Online was designed as a training simulator for the military. They want to know why Eric is being affected. In game, his avatar, Zag, is given more responsibility. Even after failing an operation for the first time, he's put in charge of a large fireteam for a major op. Through multiple ops, Eric has been mentally and physically changed. When virtual and reality collide, the game leaking out into the real world beyond Eric's changes, he'll find more than just his life is on the line.

Order 66?

I’m guessing Troy Osgood likes to pull the rug up under his readers. Same thing happened in the last series I read. Plot twist you’ll never see coming.

good book

I really don't like the minimum word count requirements for audible reviews. . .

The ending

The twist in the last half hour retroactively ruins the entire series for me.

It really takes off at the end.

The book goes from a fun adventure to something that really gripped my attention right at the end. without spoiling that end for you I will say this. If this series doesn't continue, I will be very upset.

I've been hoping this twist would happen and never thought the author would do it! I am beyond enthralled.

the twist ruined the series for me

if you're anything like me, and you actually liked the first two instalments, let me save you the credit on this one. thirty minutes before the end, you discover that wyvern is actually a real terrorist organization which shockingly, no one in the modern world is aware of. they're using the game to brainwash people into becoming sleeper agents. and they want the main character because he's the only one affected in any tangible way by the programing. the mc proceeds to have a small breakdown after he kills one of their operatives, but snaps out of it long enough to decide to join the fight against the real world wyvern. it literally ends like this. all of it explained at the very last moments of the book. how droll.
