War is coming!

The government has accelerated their super soldier program. Their new Virtual Reality system is the perfect tool to train soldiers for the coming war. There is a shortage of enlisted men and women that possess the "talent". Everyone from athletes to professional gamers must be sorted and vetted. Humanity is on the line.

Lucius is one of those lucky few selected to participate in Codename: Freedom, a new game that promises to push Virtual Reality to the ultimate level. Unknown to him, the Game Developers have no time to waste. With the pain dampeners turned off and an army ready to attack the new players as they enter Codename: Freedom, he will have to ask himself an unexpected question. Is his dream worth suffering for? Will he quit, go mad, or find the motivation to fight when it becomes painfully clear that this is far from just another game?

Great LitRPG Book

I loved the book. I found the unique game mechanics the writer used for the world interesting and I want to see where he goes with them. The characters have more depth than a lot of hack and slash LitRPG books our there. The protagonist had a nice realistic feel with him not being some overpowered player that would always just get what he wants. I eagerly await the next book.

I have nothing negative to say

I liked it and cannot think of a single bad thing go say about the book. So I recommend it as an engrossing listen. The gravity given to pain is a bit wierd. Most books dont give actual death the same weight and gravity that this book gives transient physical pain. But then again torture is often treated as a crime well above execution. So it makes logical sense. It just feels really wierd. Pain is usually treated as a complete non issue if there is no associated long term injury. So its wierd and different.

One of the best litrpg series

I own almost 500 audio titles and this series is one of the best I have listened to. It pulled me in and I have listened all three books in a week. I am sad the journey is over for now and I eagerly await his next book.

Great premise

Very nice. Really descriptive so you can actually see the characters and their actions. I highly recommend this.

Good story. Dumb strategy

Spoiler follows!!!
They find the goblin city. It is bigger than there town. The goblins see them and start pounding the war drum. There is no doubt they will attack the player town.
So of course everyone goes to sleep in their beds and they place a guard at the main gate leaving the other gates and all of the wall un guarded.
I am not a strategist but even i could do better than that

I truly enjoyed this

The visceral realism of the VR world gave me some inspiration for my own work.

wow

I love the lit rpg genre but I was thinking I was getting too familiar with it's tropes and couldn't be surprised... this book showed me the genre still has a few in it for me. This new twist as far as connecting the real bodies of the players to their avatar adds a sense of danger not always there in a genre where main characters can die then just come back. I listened to this in one sitting and loved every minute of it. That can't be said with many other books. Five stars without hesitation and am looking forward to book two.
