Publisher's summary

Ashlock wakes in the courtyard of a demonic sect... as a tree. A tree that eats people.

An odd start to a new life. Almost as strange as the humans flying through the skies on flaming swords and challenging the heavens. After all, this is a world where humans could chase the goal of immortality through the art of cultivation.

But Ashlock is merely a sapling in a desolate courtyard, left alone with his thoughts and unable to speak to those passing him by.

Unless he does something about it...

Every day, he grows stronger as he cultivates and uses a suspicious daily sign-in system that grants him powerful skills, mutations, summons, and items, all in exchange for credits earned from eating flesh and watching the seasons pass by.

But his peaceful life and man-eating ways can only go unnoticed for so long. His Qi-rich bark makes him a target for many young masters. If that isn't bad enough, tensions in the demonic sect are at an all-time high with the Beast Tide festers on the horizon.

Ashlock's only option is to grow faster and stronger than any tree has ever done in the history of the nine realms—all while trying to avoid being turned into firewood.

It’s quite literally what it says it is and I’m surprised

I got this recommended by zogarth the dude who wrote primal so I knew it had be cool like I normally think issekai stories are played out but was genuinely appreciated the fact the guy is just a tree and the perspective is of a guy in a tree not just used as a premise then discarded nope dudes a tree and that’s a treat lmao

Surprisingly Great!

What a surprisingly great book. Did not know what to expect when I started it, but it was well worth the read/credit/listen. Recommend it.

Love the MC

Excellent writing pace for me, not to slow and not to fast. Loving all the characters so far! Cannot wait until the next book!

It was a refreshing and different take on the classic cultivation story

I enjoyed it. It was different and worth the read. It didn’t stray into too many side stories which is a trap when it comes to stories like these.

What an amazing yet frustrating perspective

I glanced over this story more than a few times, not really interested in what seemed to be a boring story that would be about grass growing… and I was right except it wasn’t boring and it wasn’t grass growing but instead a flesh devouring tree that housed a human souls incompatible with its new tree body, outmatched in every way, destined to be slapped down by the heaven and destroyed by others greed, yet somehow persevering in its pursuit of power. I absolutely loved this story, and I’ve never read anything quite like it ever before.

I’m not a very big fan of cultivation stories, yet the angle this one took just baffled me and once I started reading- or rather listening in this case, I couldn’t stop. 21 hours of amazing storytelling, with the ending leaving me ravenous for more. The narrator did amazing, even if I didn’t quite like how some of the internal dialogue tended to switch to a young sounding child at times since it threw me off, but still amazing.
