Publisher's summary

In his sixth fable, best-selling author Patrick Lencioni takes on a topic that almost everyone can relate to: the causes of a miserable job.

Millions of workers, even those who have carefully chosen careers based on true passions and interests, dread going to work, suffering each day as they trudge to jobs that make them cynical, weary, and frustrated. It is a simple fact of business life that any job, from investment banker to dishwasher, can become miserable.

Through the story of a CEO turned pizzeria manager, Lencioni reveals the three elements that make work miserable: irrelevance, immeasurability, and anonymity. And he gives managers and their employees the keys to make any job more fulfilling.

As with all of Lencioni's books, this one is filled with actionable advice you can put into effect immediately. In addition to the fable, the book includes a detailed model examining the three signs of job misery and how they can be remedied. It covers the benefits of managing for job fulfillment within organizations, increased productivity, greater retention, and competitive advantage, and it offers examples of how managers can use the applications in the book to deal with specific jobs and situations.

A MUST listen for ANY manager!

I have achieved an unheard of 75% retention rate in the F&B industry and I was just being myself. When I tried to dissect what I did that was different I came to the conclusion that it was as simple as caring about your people. THIS BOOK breaks down actionable principles to get the results I have gotten by simply caring. Truly a must read/listen for anyone that wants to succeed in business and life!

very helpful

love the real life stories, felt very relatable to me. I often wonder how many people feel this way about their jobs and as a manager how much impact I will have on my employees liking what they do.

A must read for allllllllllll!!!

This book was gifted to me in a time of my profession at In N Out Burger by a manager I helped open his store. I am soooooo passionate about service, building people up and empowering others- that at the time he gave it to me (as a gift for helping open his store) the title alone was off-putting. However years later- I realize the gifts he saw in me and became a huge compliment and inspiration for my current job and all of my current and future goals!!!! This book is absolute GOLD!!!! A TRUE GOLD MINE! Relatable, real, simple, an easy- don't want to put down, read! So we'll done!
