Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Patrick Lencioni unveils a truly groundbreaking new model that will change the way we think about work and teams forever.

The 6 Types of Working Genius is the fastest way to help people identify the type of work that brings them joy and energy, and avoid work that leads to frustration and burnout.

Beyond the personal discovery and instant relief that Working Genius provides, the model also gives teams a remarkably simple and practical framework for tapping into one another’s natural gifts, which increases productivity and reduces unnecessary judgment.

In classic Lencioni fashion, Pat brings his model to life in a thrilling fable that is as relatable as it is compelling. He tells the story of Bull Brooks, an entrepreneur, husband, and father who sets out to solve his own frustration at work and stumbles into a new way of thinking that changes the way he sees his work, his team, and even his marriage.

What sets this book—and the model behind it—apart from other tools and assessments is the speed at which it can be understood and applied, and the relevance it has to every kind of work in life, from running a company to launching a product to managing a family.

In addition to this book, Lencioni and the Table Group have created a 10-minute assessment that helps individuals quickly identify their gifts and apply this model to themselves and their teams. Join the hundreds of thousands of people who have already discovered their Working Genius, and experience the transformation in your work, your team, and your life.

Love the insight

Really fascinating. So many puzzle pieces fell into place as I read this as to how and why I get frustrated when working on both personal planning and professional work.

He does it again! Balanced insight + usability

I've read all of Lencioni's books, shared them with many, and use them in my professional and personal life.
The greatest value that Lencioni brings is that he boils down insights, usually you can find the same ideas from many sources, including in the scientific literature. This is not a negative, it's a plus. As this is exactly what the does, Lencioni lives the Pareto Principle, 20% of all causes create 80% of all results. And that's what he teaches, in easy and clear ways so they can actually be implemented by individuals, in teams, in organizations, in families.

So you might already know that, what about this book?
The fable is as usual not the highest form of literature, which of course is not the intention. It's a great down-to-earth conversation with one of your friends over a cup of coffee.

Then the model instructing the fabel... is EXCELLENT.
Like Lencioni mentions, this is part psychological profiling (he might use the word personality), but given the scientific state of that field, and everything else, take Strength Psychology, this is a way better boiled-down version that can actually be used. In all simplicity, the stuff that makes you cranky, irritated and frustrated and harsh with those around you: All of the "6" that drain you. You might perfectly good at it, but it drains you of energy. It's a perfect shortcut to get to the core about who you are and what you should be spending your time doing and not doing, without any over-analyzing.

For me, it put the spotlight on how I have a lot of drive and a million questions and ideas, but as highly self-motivated, it drives me nuts having to 'galvanize' others. I do it with animals and kids, but with adults, I have sort-of assumed that should be a given when you show up for work. It's not. So I drive other people nuts. And they drive me nuts.

No more of that.
The secret and solution is in this book.

Well worth the read.

I also shared it with our 12-year old, it's a great prep for understanding what choosing a career etc truly is about.

Shockingly Impactful

I’ve done a handful of really good business books by some phenomenal writers and business people. Never have I done a book that so quickly and clearly impacted my approach to my own work as well as my teams. This is such a simple concept with so much nuance and a beautiful impact. I did the assessment with a portion of my team and already seeing some great fruit from it. I can’t recommend this book enough. I’m very excited to be able to roll this out to the rest of the team.

I need to get this book for my whole team!

I am amazed by the simplicity and common sense of the principles laid out in this book. I am seeing for myself that my wonder and invention early in on the process are necessary and how they frustrate my team near completion.

I loved this book! I can’t wait to start figuring out what my geniuses and frustrations are, and my husband’s, and the employees in the department I run.
