Publisher's summary

Borderline Personality Disorder. "What the hell was that?" raged Rachel Reiland when she read the diagnosis written in her medical chart. As the 29-year-old accountant, wife, and mother of young children would soon discover, it was the diagnosis that finally explained her explosive anger, manipulative behaviors, and self-destructive episodes - including bouts of anorexia, substance abuse, and sexual promiscuity. With astonishing honesty, Reiland's memoir reveals what mental illness feels like and looks like from the inside, and how healing from such a devastating disease is possible through intensive therapy and the support of loved ones.

Must Read

Wow. I just finished this book and it’s very difficult to put into words the power of this compassionate, honest look inside a journey through mental illness and the healing process. There is heartbreak, spirituality and a lot of hope. In the end though, what makes it so special is the compassion with which it is told.

So Helpful

I listened to this because it was referenced several times in “Stop Walking on Eggshells” and I am so glad I did. It has been incredibly helpful to hear her perspective and experiences. I have a new outlook on what it means to be a parent, and a new understanding of the possible roots of some of the more difficult behaviors I experience in myself and others.

Amazingly Beautiful

This story pulls you in from within the 1st few chapters. By showing what someone feels and thinks when their emotions hit extreme, in many different areas, is very eye opening - it was hard for me to put the book down; wanting to read more, and more and more. Reading her story of BPD, and how she has recovered, was like witnessing evolution, but emotionally, and in a much shorter period of time... "Great Book."

Great buy

I bought this book to get some insight into the disorder prior to completing a course on BPD. I found her description of experiences such a wonderful background on which to base the academic studies I embarked on after listening to the book.

Great book! I loved it. It helped me to understand someone I loved with BPD but also myself. I found myself in her, in smaller doses. BPD is the extreme of so many human emotions we all feel. We just control them better. They are black or white, non-BPD are more gray or we are able to be more gray. I loved her relationship with her doctor. If you did therapy, in some small way, you know how that relationship can be. So intimate. I loved her honesty about her family, her feelings. I also admired she continued therapy. If you have a person with BPD in your life, this book is great. Also, the narrator does a fantastic job!
