Publisher's summary

Borderline Personality Disorder. "What the hell was that?" raged Rachel Reiland when she read the diagnosis written in her medical chart. As the 29-year-old accountant, wife, and mother of young children would soon discover, it was the diagnosis that finally explained her explosive anger, manipulative behaviors, and self-destructive episodes - including bouts of anorexia, substance abuse, and sexual promiscuity. With astonishing honesty, Reiland's memoir reveals what mental illness feels like and looks like from the inside, and how healing from such a devastating disease is possible through intensive therapy and the support of loved ones.

Amazing Memoir!

Thank you for writing this book. I can now begin to believe in my own miracles.

I’ve never read a book about BPD and this one just came to me accidentally (although I don’t believe in accidents). Beautifully written this book gave me so much insight into my own self, my own struggles with ED and BPD. Rachel’s story is my story. I feel like this book has healed me in some very significant way. I’m so glad I have come upon it. Totally recommend it to anyone struggling with this particular mental illness. Thank you!

Excellent For Some

This book offers a lot for those who's lives have been affected in some way by BPD. For those who haven't experienced BPD in themselves or a loved one, many won't understand the value presented here in 'Get Me Out of Here'.

Mental Health

I began reading this book as a recommendation from my boss who is a children and youth psychiatrist, as I enjoy books about people dealing with mental health and I am working on my LCMSW degree. I enjoyed this book from beginning to end, Rachel's well documented recount of her treatment was powerful and showed how difficult therapy and medication management can be, and also needed for certain disorders.

fantastic book for the mind of a new therapist!

Would you consider the audio edition of Get Me Out of Here to be better than the print version?

yes, but I must say that I spend a great deal of time traveling by car so to me the audiobook will always be better. I am a slow reader and books like this can take me weeks to read instead of a few days to a week. audiobooks are very convenient and this book in particular as read by the narrator was fantastic, I believe she nailed all of the tones and inflections that were needed precisely

What did you like best about this story?

I am new to the field of psychotherapy and as a therapist I am always seeking to better understand things from my clients perspective. most of my trainng is from the psychologist/researcher experience it was valuable insight to me to read about BPD from a successful client perspective.

Which character – as performed by Mazhan Marno – was your favorite?

Rachel of course!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

it did make me laugh and cry as well as at times I found myself angry at Rachel and her "acting out" and mortified when it seemed at times she would never have a change. However, in the end, I was overjoyed at the outcome.

Any additional comments?

would love to have Dr. Padget write his perspective on BPD and how he views the treatment process.

Great listen for understanding of BPD.

at times the book felt drawn out but all and all worth it. I was intrigued as I have never heard of anyone who took on and tackled the illness.

inspirational

I chose this book because of my personal experience with mental illness and of the experiences of those I love. Although this book has summoned fear, panic and difficult emotions due to the rawness of its content, I have felt so much more inspired to continue understanding, loving and accepting myself and those around me as well as understanding, loving and accepting the child within.

Pieces together my confusion

Spool relatable. I cry through this interpreting her experiences into mine. Which was so easy because of the way she was telling her story. Subtly detailed in all aspects of bpd
