Publisher's summary

You may be surprised to discover that there are more living things in one teaspoon of soil than there are people on the planet. In just one spoonful of healthy soil, there is a huge variety of nutrients, minerals, micro-organisms–an immense natural resource. Many life forms make soil their home, and in turn, most other animals depend upon them for food.

There is no aspect of agriculture that is more important and fundamental than soil, yet we are losing vast quantities of it every day to development of land, destruction of forests, erosion, and pollution. Without soil, we would not survive–plants couldn’t grow, trees couldn’t grow tall, and earthworms and insects would have no home. Soil also helps biodiversity–it provides habitats for organisms such as fungi, microbes, and insects, as well as for the roots of plants.

Not only is looking after our soil important for all living things and in the fight against climate change, knowing how best to meet your soil’s needs is a key task for every keen gardener, ensuring you get the most out of your garden.

Discovering the science behind soil and what’s really happening in the earth can help you change the way you think about soil, and also help you to create the garden you have always been dreaming of, making growing your veggies much more enjoyable than before.

Drawing upon years of experience in the garden, Nydia will teach you all you need to know about soil to create abundancy in your garden.

In A Spoonful of Soil Helps the World Go Round, you’ll learn:

  • The different types of soil.
  • What nutrients soil needs.
  • How to know what type of soil you have.
  • How to test your soil’s pH.
  • How to test the composition of your soil.
  • How to avoid the most common mistakes made.
  • The importance of water.
  • The importance of cover crops.
  • Composting and mulching.

And much more!

You may think that learning about soil is too sciency and technical for you, but the information in this audiobook is broken down into easy-to-understand language, so that you can learn the science without all the jargon.

And you’ll learn how to be an expert with soil in no time!

Such a Great Resource

I highly recommend this book! The author’s knowledge of soil and its impact on the planet is extraordinary. From nutrients to animal life, soil is made up of fundamental building blocks. Overdevelopment, deforestation and pollution are causing valuable soil to become scarcer each year. This audiobook provides key insight into best gardening practices through a proper understanding of the soil you use. The author uses her own gardening experience to help you create a plentiful and healthy garden of you own. The narrative covers soil types, soil nutrition (not just water it and hope for the best), crop types, gardening errors and so much more. This is a layman’s guide to gardening with proper soil to promote healthy food as well as a healthy ecosystem. This is a must listen.

It is very useful information

This book is very practical for home gardening. It's winter and I'm working through the methods I learned in the book to feed the soil in my front yard. When spring comes, I can plant some new flowers and tiny trees. I recommended this book to my mom, who is a big fan of planting flowers, and I think this book will be very meaningful to her.

A LOT OF USEFUL INFORMATION

This is an excellent beginner's book because it covers all the fundamentals. It also contains useful information for those looking to enhance their established gardens in more environmentally friendly ways. It provides a decently thorough introduction to numerous topics—enough to get going—but can also be utilized as a starting point for additional in-depth research on certain genres. I adore how the emphasis is on naturally enhancing soil, how it explains composting ratios, provides a ton of examples and comments, and how it describes a variety of techniques, including which are simplest, toughest, quickest, best for bulk materials, best for tiny spaces, etc. I'm still giving it five stars because it's so great. strongly advise.
