Publisher's summary

A look at how to overcome common difficulties and maintain a loving relationship with an AS partner.

Although having Asperger syndrome (AS) can make romantic relations difficult, having a fulfilling relationship with an Asperger man is certainly not impossible. A woman in love with a man with AS may interpret his difficulties with communication and socialisation as a lack of interest in the relationship. He may vacillate between being gentle and caring to seeming cold and distant. She may find his behaviour hard to understand, resulting in feelings of loneliness, isolation and confusion. This book shows how to overcome these difficulties and maintain a loving relationship with an AS partner.

From an unwillingness to show affection in public or even sleep in the same bed to problems holding down a job, this book looks at 22 common traits that women may discover when they are dating, living with or married to a man with Asperger's syndrome. Rudy Simone explores the complications of Asperger's relationships with honesty and understanding, drawing on research and personal experience to inform and advise women with AS partners. She offers helpful tips for improving the relationship and finding fulfilment both individually and as a couple.

This book will help women to understand the male Asperger's mind and, equally, it can help men with AS to see things from their partner's perspective. It will also be of interest to counsellors working with couples where the male partner has Asperger's syndrome.

Changed my Life

I have been married to a wonderful man with Asperger’s syndrome for 10 years. The last couple years, my self-esteem has definitely taken a hit because I have forgotten all that goes with being in love with someone with AS. It isn’t me! And it’s not all him either. What a wonderful handbook. Also, I would highly recommend any young woman who may be dating a gentleman with Asperger’s syndrome read this before making a commitment. The good news is, it made me fall in love with him all over again.

Good ideas, but overly brief

While the author does preface her content with an explanation that the generalizations don’t apply to everyone, I felt more depth could make it more applicable to a variety of circumstances. Some of this was useful for me, some not.

Truly amazing

This publication is well read and the accent of the reader is quite nice. The text is amazingly informative and is quite supportive of developing a deeper understanding for both partners.

Hits the nail on the head.

I didn’t realize I had AS until I was much older and boy if all of these issues aren’t exactly me. Really enlightening and well read without being overly wordy. Gets to the point and offers suggestions.

A very helpful manual to understanding my husband.

Totally by happenstance, I came across info on Aspergers Syndrome today, and while reading the questions to know if you or someone you know/love has it, I realized my husband fits squarely in its terms. We've had a tumultuous 36yr marriage due to his inability to respond emotionally or communicate in general. So I looked on Amazon and came across this book. I am so thankful I got it. I admit some parts had me in tears, reliving a lifetime of hurt and wondering what I had done for the lack of connection on his part. But the book really inspired me and gave me hope that this knowledge can help us both understand eachother better and hopefully make our remaining time on earth less .... well... less void, hurtful, lonely, and argumentative. Many thanks to the author. You gave an old woman hope when I had just about hit my breaking point and gone numb and felt defeated, to just accept my lonely existence in my marriage.

Very helpful and relatable!

Super practical and gave insights from “Aspes” men themselves, their partners and their families. Well written.

Helpful and both sad and encouraging

I’m in a 9 month relationship for the 2nd time with an undiagnosed Aspie. He mostly typifies all the traits and thankfully not all. He’s somewhere on the spectrum.
He changes an 8 month routine without a word. Gets up and leaves with no memory of his desire to stay together and share time now that we’re retired. He smiles, says shush, and goes to his house for his own space, coffee and then begins his retirement job.
This book has helped me enormously and I’m thankful for the eye opener. I’m so in love with him and hope our future remains in tact. I wonder if my affectionate nature can live forever like this. No arm around the shoulder watching a show because he thinks being overly engrossed is normal.
I wish there was a forum for us Cassandra’s to talk. I’m grateful again to the author knowing my life now is not by someone intentionally selfish but rather a man driven by his needs.
Thank you for the help.

A Game Changer for Someone In a Relationship with a Man Who Has Aspergers

My partner had only casually mentioned that he thinks he may be on the Spectrum a few times in the 4 months we’ve been dating. A week or 2 ago, he suddenly withdrew from our relationship without much explanation. I was full of self-doubt, blaming myself for it, picking myself apart for his sudden lack of interest.
Then I remembered his comments about ASD & found this book. This book will allow me to love him the way he needs to be loved. I’m forever grateful that I found it.
