Publisher's summary

Coming home dredges up deeply buried secrets in The Survivors, a thrilling mystery by New York Times best-selling author Jane Harper.

Kieran Elliott's life changed forever on the day a reckless mistake led to devastating consequences.

The guilt that still haunts him resurfaces during a visit with his young family to the small coastal community he once called home.

Kieran's parents are struggling in a town where fortunes are forged by the sea. Between them all is his absent brother, Finn.

When a body is discovered on the beach, long-held secrets threaten to emerge. A sunken wreck, a missing girl, and questions that have never washed away....

A Macmillan Audio production from Flatiron Books

"[Harper is] a master at creating atmospheric settings, and it’s easy to fall under her spell.... A layered and nuanced mystery.” (Kirkus)

“As always, Harper skillfully evokes the landscape as she weaves a complicated, elegant web, full of long-buried secrets ready to come to light.” (New York Times Book Review)

Jane Harper did again

This author has become one of my favorites. And Stephen Shanahan narration is amazing...again. This book was just released yesterday and already, I can’t wait for the next one. I have listened to the previous 3 books twice, and I will be listening to this one again.

Best Psychological Thriller in past year

The isolated Tasmania coast community was rocked by a tragic storm 12 years earlier. Now grief and guilt from those events boil over setting family against family and friend against friend. The Survivors started more slowly than previous books by Jane Harper. But as I got through it I realized this gave her the time to peel back the layers of the characters more dramatically. This built to one of her most riveting endings yet and made it all worthwhile.

What a wild ride!!

Jane Harper & Stephen Shanahan make a TERRIFIC PAIR!! the narrator's voice instantly transports me to Australia, i can't wait for Jane's next book & I'm going to research any other books Stephen has narrated. Thank you for bringing this great read to life. Sincerely, Liz Jardine

Outstanding

I waited several months for this book to come out. I think Jane Harper is a literary marvel. Her depth of human motivation places her apart from other mystery novelists. Wow, read this book.

Good thriller

This book has an interesting take on a murder mystery. However it is very slow. It really focuses on the back stories, almost too much, outlining the characters very in depth. The last chapters is when it gets good. You almost can skip half the book and read the end and still understand what is happening.

An awful lot like the author's previous book

I think I would have enjoyed this book more if it hadn't reminded me so much of the author's previous book (The Dry). For me, the story worked once (I really enjoyed The Dry), but not twice. The setting is different, but both involve the protagonist returning to the small town where he grew up and dealing with long-held secrets, local attitudes, family problems, and revelations about his former friends and classmates. The characters in both books are very similar. That said, the book is suspenseful and the setting is interesting. The narration is top-notch.

my favourite Australian author.

Another intricate story of relationships and human failings and the somehow seemingly insignificant actions that can shape or destroy lives.

Disappointed

I've read and loved all of Harper's books ... except this one. Characters, setting and plot are thin.

Love her story twists!

Just when you think you have it figured out, you don’t. Jane Harper covers all the bases, friendship, family, loss, love.

Fantastic writing as always. Jane Harper is a writer who spins a tale full of mystery, and family relationships. They stay with you long after you are done reading them.
