Publisher's summary

A brand-new book from award-winning author Kate Morton, read by powerhouse Emmy award–winning actress Claire Foy. This breathtaking mystery of love, lies and a cold case come back to life is told with Morton's trademark intricacy and beauty.

Adelaide Hills, Christmas Eve, 1959. At the end of a scorching hot day, beside a creek in the grounds of a grand and mysterious house, a local deliveryman makes a terrible discovery. A police investigation is called, and the small town of Tambilla becomes embroiled in one of the most shocking and perplexing murder cases in the history of South Australia.

Many years later and thousands of miles away, Jess is a journalist in search of a story. Having lived and worked in London for nearly two decades, she now finds herself laid off from her full-time job and struggling to make ends meet. Until a phone call out of nowhere summons her back to Sydney, where her beloved grandmother, Nora, has suffered a fall and been raced to the hospital.

At Nora’s house, Jess discovers a true crime book that chronicles the police investigation into a long-buried event: the Turner Family Tragedy of Christmas Eve, 1959. It is only when Jess skims through the pages that she finds a shocking connection between her own family and this once-infamous scandal – a murder mystery that has never been resolved satisfactorily.

Oh my heart!

I love Kate Morton books and Homecoming might just be my favorite, second to The Lake House. My heart was in my stomach for much of the book. I love how she weaves little clues into the story and gems of hope and intrigue while still keeping you guessing and on your toes. There is always a lovely twist or happenstance that makes your heart swell, even amidst some of the sad occurrences. I guessed at much of what happened earlier in this story than in past books, but it did nothing to diminish the greatness of the story and took nothing away from the ending revelations. I love this book and Kate Morton’s lovely affinity for describing a place to the point you feel you can see the textiles and smell the air. She makes you feel as if the people and story is one she’s telling of her own family history, with love and care. I’ve cried sad and happy tears with each of her books, but don’t let that scare you— happy wins even amidst the sadder aspects. Can’t wait for the next!

I love Kate Morton books. This one painted the detaills of the Australian landscape and sun and storm. The reader is completely there. The peculiar twists of plot were fun. A really enjoyable experience.

Moving

What a great story. Many twist and turns along the way. Narration was very well done and made it easy to keep everyone separate. A very gifted writer. Read all her books.

WOW just amazing!

I have read and loved Kate Morton's books before, but this one just blew her other books out of the water! I love everything from the story line, mixture of murder mystery with historical fiction, and as always her beautiful prosaic writing. Combined with Claire Foy's superb narration made this the perfect combo!
