Not bad, but this author has better

I really enjoyed Slow Horses by Mick Herron, and got this book based on that. But have to say that i found this to be a bit slow and drawn out in pla..Show More »

When a woman dies beneath the wheels of a train and her newly acquired love fails to turn up at the funeral, private investigator Zoë Boehm is hired to find him. And in attempting to unlock the secrets of a woman she's never met, in search of a man who might be anyone, Zoë finds only more questions. As her search leads her nearer to two different kinds of criminal, she starts to wonder if the man she is looking for has found her first. And if he has, is that going to make her another victim?

A bit of a disappointment from slow horses

I had such a high opinion of the plot, narration and character development from the slow horses series that this really seemed to pale in comparison.

    Average Investigative Thriller

"Why We Die" shows the makings of a great writer, but one that is not quite there yet.

This is an earlier Herron novel.

She identifies the dead woman as private detective Zöe Boehm, but putting a name to the corpse only raises further questions. Did Zöe kill herself, or did one of her old cases come looking for her? And what's brought Sarah's former sparring partner Gerard Inchon to the same broken-down hotel?

    Top of the Class

    Herron writes masterfully.

It is nice to see a talented writer in the "Crime Fiction" genre. Plot is coherent, prose is beautiful,..Show More »
