Miriel is a cold and practical high priestess of Mauvearille, confident in her power and committed to the tenets of her faith, which include the forbidding of love. So when she is sent on a journey to obtain more power by achieving a greater relationship with her dark goddess, she does not even consider that she might not succeed. After all, the mantra of Mauvearille’s priestesses is "prevail or perish".

Change is rarely easy. Miriel, Aya, Sryka, and Tyson learn this as they journey together searching for a way to heal Tyson’s damaged heart. On their path across the continent, they encounter signs which indicate there may be more going on in the world than what any of them thought.
