Set against the backdrop of the Millennium celebrations and Britain's increasingly compromised role in America's war against terrorism, The Closed Circle lifts the lid on an era in which politics and presentation, ideology and the media, have become virtually indistinguishable. Maybe they're not soul mates after all? Lastly, there's the bizarre murder he's just witnessed. 

When Eleonore (Leo) Reeves moves back home with her parents after graduation, she's frustrated by the narrow horizons of English country life. But when Richard, an old family friend, comes to stay for the weekend, she's refreshed by his political outlook, and intrigued by the spark of attraction she detects between him and her mother. Richard tells Leo that he's been researching a book so explosive that it might put his life in danger: the true story of a group of students and academics, all present at Cambridge University in the early 1980s, who went on to form an influential think-tank.

Gulliver is a travel-hungry and adventurous ship's doctor who has the odd misfortune of being ship-wrecked four times in as many voyages. Gulliver finds himself a giant among tiny humans in Lilliput; a tiny human among giants in Brobdignag; on the flying island of Laputa, with its most impractical intellectuals; and finally in the land of the Houyhnhnms, talking horses who think precious little of human ‘Yahoos’.

Newspaper columnist Hilary gets thousands for telling it like it is; Henry's turning hospitals into carparks; Roddy's selling art in return for sex; down on the farm Dorothy's squeezing every last pound from her livestock; Thomas is making a killing on the stock exchange; and Mark is selling arms to dictators.

Bienvenue à Bournville, charmante bourgade proche de Birmingham connue pour sa célèbre chocolaterie. C'est à l'occasion de la victoire de mai 1945 que nous y rencontrons la petite Mary Clarke, émerveillée par les festivités organisées autour de sa maison. Elle y croise alors le chemin d'un certain Geoffrey Lamb, fils d'un collègue de son père travaillant aussi dans l'usine de chocolat.
