This is the original story that would later become "Alice in Wonderland". The journey began at Folly Bridge in Oxford and ended 3 miles northwest in the village of Godstow. During the trip, Lewis Carroll told the three young daughters of his friend a story that featured a bored little girl named Alice who goes looking for an adventure. The girls loved it, and one of them, Alice Liddell, asked Dodgson to write it down for her. On 26 November 1864, he gave Alice the handwritten manuscript of "Alice's Adventures Under Ground".

"Beyond the Black River" is one of the original stories about Conan the Cimmerian (a.k.a. Conan the Barbarian), written by American author Robert E. Howard and published in 1935. It is set in the pseudo-historical Hyborian Age and concerns Conan fighting the savage Hyborian Picts in the unsettled lands beyond the infamous Black River... "Rinkitink in Oz" is the tenth wonderful book of the Land of "Oz" series written by L. Frank Baum. The full and extended title says a bit about what's going on in this enchanting and more than slightly mad world: "Rinkitink in Oz: Wherein is Recorded the Perilous Quest of Prince Inga of Pingaree and King Rinkitink in the Magical Isles that Lie Beyond the Borderland of Oz". As always with the Oz audio books, the listener gets fully enveloped by the wonderfully strange surroundings and the equally strange and wonderful (not always, though!) persons.

"Mother Goose in Prose" is a collection of twenty-two children's stories based on Mother Goose nursery rhymes. It was the first children's book written by author L. Frank Baum, published in 1897. The author himself gives a great introduction to the book: "Many of these nursery rhymes are complete tales in themselves, telling their story tersely but completely; there are others which are but bare suggestions, leaving the imagination to weave in the details of the story."

"Omnilingual" is a sci-fi short story written by H. Beam Piper. The story was originally published in 1957 in magazine-form. The work is unusual in focusing on the problem of archaeology on an alien culture... An expedition from Earth to Mars discovers a deserted city, the remains of an advanced civilization that died out 50,000 years before! The human scientists recover books and documents left behind, and are puzzled by their contents. Earnest young archeologist Martha Dane deciphers a few words.

"The K-Factor" is a sci-fi story by author Harry Harrison, published in 1960. A K-factor is a so called "war factor", more precisely a name of an atomic file that can be used in two ways, as with an atomic bomb. Neel Sidorak, our hero, and his team has to constantly guard Earth's safety, as Earth had settled quite a few planets... Thought provoking and entertaining in equal measure!

A spaceship is attacked by a mysterious sphere, a defense mechanism belonging to the planet that the spaceship has been surveying. The spaceship wins the battle with the sphere but is badly damaged, as well as the crew. They land on the strange planet for repairs and encounter humanoid life forms with advanced telepathic abilities. The humanoids seem friendly, but are they to be trusted ultimately...?

"The Machine Stops" is a sci-fi story by E. M. Forster, first published in 1909. It is set in a post-apocalyptic world where humanity lives underground and relies on a giant machine to provide their needs. The story predicted new technologies such as instant messaging and the Internet.

"The Emerald City of Oz" was published in 1910. It is the story of Dorothy and her Uncle Henry and Aunt Em coming to live in Oz permanently due to the impending loss of their farm in Kansas because of a terrible tornado. While they are toured through the Quadling Country, the Nome king is assembling allies for an invasion of Oz! In this adventure the listener is in for a real treat, meeting more of the wonderful inhabitants of Oz than ever before (as well as some of the scary folk from the underground Nome Kingdom).

"The Skylark of Space" by E. E.Smith was written between 1915 and 1921 while Smith was working on his doctorate. Though the original idea for the novel was Smith's, he co-wrote the first part of the novel with Lee Hawkins Garby. The novel is considered to be one of the earliest works of interstellar travel and the first example of space opera... Close your eyes, prick up your ears and enjoy.

"Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz" is the fourth book (among many!) set in the Land of Oz by author L. Frank Baum, published in 1908. Written shortly after the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and around the time Baum moved to California, the book starts with an earthquake in California. Dorothy and others - such as Eureka (her cat), Zeb (her cousin) - are riding a buggy being pulled by a cab-horse named Jim, when suddenly they are swallowed up by cracks in the earth, and fall into an underground cavern, where they begin their adventures, including meeting a race of people made entirely out of vegetables... this will be the least strange part of this wonderful story!

"The Jungle Book" is a wonderful collection of stories by world famous English author Rudyard Kipling. The original publications contain illustrations, some by the author's father, John Lockwood Kipling. The tales in the book are fables, using animals in an anthropomorphic manner to give moral lessons. The best-known of them are the three stories revolving around the adventures of Mowgli, an abandoned "man cub" who is raised by wolves in the Indian jungle.

An action-packed and knowledgeable sci-fi tale by multi award-winning and prolific author Poul William Anderson. The story is set in the not too distant future. Earth has been conquered and the rather too humanoid new rulers extract heavy taxes, control the industry and even reproduction... Something has to be done! But there are those who are against this.
