These six wonderful folk tales are based on stories told by Norman Hinsdale Pitman in A Chinese Wonder Book, originally published in 1918. Pitman collected and published several collections of folk tales and other Chinese books. We have taken the liberty of retelling all six stories to be appropriate for a modern audience, and to use a limited vocabulary, most of which are in the standard 1200-word HSK4 vocabulary.

"The Girl on the Boat" (1922) is a novel by P. G. Wodehouse. The girl from the title is the red-haired, dog-loving Wilhelmina "Billie" Bennett, and the three men are: Bream Mortimer, a long-time and long-suffering suitor of Billie; Eustace Hignett, a shy poet who is cowed by his domineering mother but secretly engaged to Billie at the opening of the tale; Sam Marlowe, Eustace's dashing cousin, who falls in love with Billie "at first sight".

This audiobook has nothing to do with killing yourself; it's about the reasons why you wouldn't. Why Don't You Kill Yourself is the title because most of us would never consider killing ourselves. The thought may have crossed our mind at some extremely difficult point in our life, but we didn't. We didn't do it then, and we wouldn't do it now. One of the reasons is because we have some things we would like to accomplish or create in this life. Even though every one of us has a reason, conscious or subconscious, we wouldn't consider killing ourselves.

"Just So Stories for Little Children" is a collection of origin myths. The Just So Stories each tell how a particular animal was modified from an original form to its current form by the acts of man, or some magical being. For example, the Whale has a tiny throat because he swallowed a mariner, who tied a raft inside to block the whale from swallowing other men. The Camel has a hump given to him by a djinn as punishment for the camel's refusing to work (the hump allows the camel to work longer between times of eating).

"The Adventures of Sally" by P. G. Wodehouse is a novel about a young, pretty, and popular American woman who lives in a boarding house in New York and works as a taxi dancer. At her twenty-first birthday, she inherits a fortune. Excerpt from the book: "Sally looked contentedly down the long table. She felt happy at last. Everybody was talking and laughing now, and her party, rallying after an uncertain start, was plainly the success she had hoped it would be.

"Just William" is a collection of children's short stories by Richmal Crompton. William in the title is a young school boy of eleven, eternally scruffy and frowning. He and his friends, Ginger, Henry and Douglas, call themselves the Outlaws, and meet at an old barn. The Outlaws are sworn enemies of the Hubert Lane-ites, with whom they frequently clash.
