Mit Romanen und Erzählungen hatte er aber auch schon zu Lebzeiten große Erfolge. Dazu zählt auch die Erzählung Olga Frohgemuth die 1921 auch verfilmt wurde. Der Professor Anton Frohgemuth saß in seinem Konferenzzimmer allein und blätterte in der Zeitung.

Vergessen wir jedoch alles, was wir durch den Disney-Film über Bambi zu wissen glauben. Durch die Verniedlichung von Tieren, wie sie uns Walt Disneys Verfilmung vorgeführt hat, ist in uns ein falsches Bild von der Tierwelt in der freien Natur entstanden. Bambi - das ist nicht allein die heile Kinderwelt, die nicht ewig eine solche bleiben kann. Dabei ist der sentimentale Film aus dem Jahr 1942 dennoch einer der schönsten Zeichentrickfilme und vermag auch heute noch Kinder und Erwachsene in seinen Bann zu schlagen.
