Story
The Cross of Christ has left a crater at the center of history, an inflection of sacrificial love toward which everything before and after this event is ordered and properly understood. That Christ is the Alpha and Omega—the logic, the meaning of creation itself, from whom the drama of salvation emanates and toward whom it moves—is a central but often neglected doctrine of Catholic Christianity.

Story
Gil Bailie wrote Violence Unveiled in the mid-1990s after learning of René Girard’s mimetic theory of human cultural origins. The mimetic theory posits that human interspecies violence posed an existential threat to the continuation of any early human community until the evolution/discovery of a particular kind of directed social violence – scapegoating violence - which in times of social crisis brought peace and harmony to the community at the expense of what would later be understood as a sacred victim or god who becomes a focus of religious awe.

Story
The author of the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles, St. Luke, is traditionally known as a sophisticated non-Jew Hellenist and perhaps a physician. He was an early convert to the Christian faith, most likely through the preaching of St. Paul. But as Gil Bailie points out in this presentation, Luke is above all a gifted teller of tales - or rather a re-teller of tales.

Troilus and Cressida reveals William Shakespeare in a dark mood. Written shortly after his play Julius Caesar, it reveals another episode of a culture under stress - this time by way of Homer's epic story of the war between the Greeks and Trojans. Using the insights of René Girard's mimetic theory, Gil Bailie brings the inner dynamics of Shakespeare's play to life. "Would you see Shakespeare's mind unfettered, read Troilus and Cressida." Story
Without Christianity neither the nature of the present crisis of culture nor the meaning of history itself can be properly comprehended. If the Christian revelation is to come to our aid in this moment of peril, we must learn to account for its sweeping claims in ways that are faithful to Church teachings, intellectually cogent, morally rigorous, charitable, anthropologically sound, and undeterred by the moribund spirit of our age.

Abandonment to Divine Providence

-
Story
Jean Pierre de Caussade's accounts in this work present the case that the present moment is a sacrament from God and that self-abandonment to it, and its needs, is a holy state. In the theological climate of France at the time, this belief was considered close to Quietist heresy. In fact, because of this fear, the work was kept unpublished until 1861.

This makes it easier to listen to and makes clearer just what a contribution this book is to the history of libertarian literature. There's never been a better time to remember the revolutionary and even libertarian roots of the American founding, and there's no better guide to what this means in the narrative of the colonial period than Murray Rothbard.

The Vision of the Anointed is a devastating critique of the mindset behind the failed social policies of the past thirty years. Thomas Sowell sees what has happened not as a series of isolated mistakes, but as a logical consequence of a vision whose defects have led to disasters in education, crime, family disintegration, and other social pathology. In this book, "politically correct" theory is repeatedly confronted with facts-and sharp contradictions between the two are explained in terms of a whole set of self-congratulatory assumptions held by political and intellectual elites.
