東京落語では、「唐茄子屋政談」という演題ですが、お裁きまで演じることは、皆無に等しいと言えましょう。上方落語で上演された速記は残っていないだけに、上方では、珍品扱いになっています。

この落語は、同じ演題で、二つのネタがあります。何方にしても、艶っぽい内容。艶笑落語のジャンルに入れられるでしょう。令和の今日では、上演されることは稀になりましたが、とても洒落た内容だと思います。

三重県松阪市にあったと伝わる、大河内明神再建の物語を、小泉八雲が纏めました。現在、大河内神社はありますが、この物語の大河内明神の場所はわかりません。

幕末から明治中期まで、東京落語界の大立者として君臨した三遊亭圓朝が、イタリアオペラを焼き直したネタとも、グリム童話が原話とも言われています。
