    Jun 18 2024
Professor Dave is a regular contributor to the show, a biologist who earned his education at Eastern Michigan University. Atlanta Water Crisis and Presidential Candidates David and Jay discussed their interest in Atlanta and its history, particularly the 2020 water pipe break incident that caused a state of emergency. They also touched on their professional connections to Emory University Hospital and its work with stem cells, as well as the potential of an unnamed individual running for president. The conversation further delved into the recent water crisis in Atlanta, Georgia, and its implications, including the continuity of prison labor. Lastly, they discussed other cities' water crises, such as Flint, Michigan, emphasizing that such problems should not occur in any community. Infrastructure, Climate Change, and Water Resources David and Jay discussed the negative impacts of insufficient infrastructure on communities, with a focus on the case of Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) in California. They also explored the issues related to the inadequate design of infrastructure and communities to manage the effects of climate change, as well as the financial and infrastructure problems of Atlanta. The conversation highlighted the importance of water as a critical resource and its significance in the political system. They also discussed the challenges faced by the Atlanta Department of Watershed Management and the issues surrounding its priorities and financial management. Water Main Break, Ticket Prices, and Politics David and Lake discussed the recent water main break in Atlanta and its impact on Megan Thee Stallion's concert. They also delved into the rising ticket prices in the music industry, the controversy surrounding Ticketmaster's monopoly, and the concept of "bread and circuses" in politics. The pair expressed their disillusionment with the music industry and the negative consequences of the "bread and circuses" strategy in politics, citing examples from ancient Rome and contemporary society. They concluded that unregulated access to this strategy can lead to dependence and catastrophe. Jay refused to call Constantinople its new name, claiming he never heard of it and refused to say the name of the country that has occupied the city since 1453. https://apnews.com/article/atlanta-water-outage-woes-andre-dickens-859a8f8ec69053a28c3b9bb56722cc59#:~:text=The%20latest%20troubles%20began%20Friday,a%20confined%20space%20for%20work. https://www.brookings.edu/articles/as-fire-ravages-california-our-infrastructure-is-still-not-equipped-to-handle-climate-change/ https://www.cbsnews.com/news/atlanta-water-main-break-causes-major-disruptions-closures/ https://kesq.com/news/national-world/cnn-national/2024/06/01/atlanta-hospital-forced-to-relocate-patients-after-major-water-main-break-puts-citys-water-supply-in-jeopardy-2/ https://www.milibrary.org/events/california-burning-fall-pacific-gas-and-electric-and-what-it-means-americas-power-grid-oct-04 https://www.ticketmaster.com/discover/eventupdates https://abcnews.go.com/US/state-emergency-declared-atlanta-water-main-break-mayor/story?id=110748819 https://www.wsbtv.com/news/local/atlanta/megan-thee-stallion-concert-atlanta-postponed/75SLZPVVZJCE7ACD2L64IMMLOM/#:~:text=ATLANTA%20%E2%80%94%20Megan%20Thee%20Stallion's%20concert,before%20the%208%20p.m.%20concert. https://www.fox5atlanta.com/news/megan-stallion-gives-update-state-farm-arena-concert-theyre-playing-me https://www.nbcnews.com/business/consumer/concert-ticket-sales-why-are-artists-canceling-shows-tours-prices-rcna154558 Fairly Decent Golf on Insta YouTube & TikTok Rae Faba - fine art from the Great Lakes Team Mandalore - keep cycling weird i paint akron -Local artists bringing art instruction to the masses. • Episode CCXXIX: the mixtape with Professor Dave
    Jun 11 2024

Professor Dave returns for continued discussions on a myriad of topics. The professor shared with the group the historical significance of the white stripe on the back of American army officers' helmets, which aided in their identification during the invasion of Trenton. He also discussed the contribution of Baron Friedrich Wilhelm Augustus von Steuben, a Prussian army veteran, who was invited to join the Continental army at Valley Forge during the Revolutionary War. Von Steuben, who didn't speak English, spent two months training the American soldiers and transformed them into a disciplined army capable of facing the British. David further explained the history of the "Blue Book," a regulation manual for the US Army written by von Steuben during the Revolutionary War. Discussing International Elections and Power Centralization They discussed the upcoming US election and the recent violence in Mexico's election, with Jay stating that this year's election season was the bloodiest in modern history. They highlighted the significance of the elections held in various countries around the world, including the Philippines, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Mexico, and El Salvador, and the role of organized crime in the Mexican elections. They also discussed the implications of the election results in Mexico, the centralization of power under the executive branch, and the performance of the media. Lastly, they touched on the political situation in Mexico, with David sharing updates on the upcoming election and the ruling party's aim to secure a super majority in Congress to erode checks and balances on the executive branch. Lastly, they touched on the new Mexican president's ties to the Jewish space laser conspiracy and engaged in a humorous discussion about Jay's request for a new horse. Professor Dave is a trained biologist, earning his degree from Eastern Michigan University.

  • Episode CCXXVIII: more of the same from Akron. Again.
    Jun 4 2024
More of the same. We discussed a shooting incident near Joy Park and Hood Market convenience store. They shared their thoughts on the authenticity of Hood Market and a potential alliance with Mo. Vapes, a closed store in Canton, Cleveland Avenue. Additionally, Chris shared his ambition to make Akron as similar to Detroit as possible, while Jay recounted his negative experiences in downtown Detroit and a desolate area outside the city. Lastly, Lake informed Chris that their friend Kennedy, a cybersecurity graduate, would be moving to San Francisco to provide a unique perspective on the city for their podcast. Former President's Conviction and Political Motivations As expected, we discussed the recent conviction of a former U.S. President for falsifying business records related to an alleged affair. They discussed the potential political motivations behind the charges, with chris suggesting it was a politically motivated case. They also discussed the possibility of the former President appealing the conviction and the potential implications of this case, including the setting of a dangerous precedent. Zin, Nicotine Pouches, and US Politics We got onto the controversy surrounding Zin and nicotine pouches, expressing frustration about the politicization of personal choices and the potential for abuse of power. They also commented on the overcorrection in the US political system, with Jay comparing it to playing checkers instead of chess, and the dangers of this approach. They highlighted the hypocrisies and flaws in the US political system, and predicted that the pendulum would swing back in future. They also mentioned the impact of social media and the importance of individual expression. Criticism of NYU's Punishment and Protests We criticized the punishment imposed on New York University students who protested against the Gaza genocide, including being required to complete a philosophically ambiguous course on integrity. Jay questioned the need for moral reasoning instruction for students who had already protested and expressed his disillusionment with the academic system. He also highlighted the university's failure to uphold its own policies and allow protests that disrupt its operations. Chris agreed with Jay's assessment and suggested that students passionate about causes such as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict should pursue careers in international relations or humanitarian aid instead of participating in disruptive protests.
