Mahabharat and Valmiki Ramayan are the two fundamental foundation epics of Hinduism. Ramayan describes the life of Ram, while Mahabharat is not focused on the life of any one person. Dwaipaayan Krishn, who is also called Maharshi Ved Vyas, and Vaasudev Krishn (also called Muralidhar, Giridhar, Gopal, Govind, Madhav etc.) are the soul of Mahabharat and hold all the strings of the story. On surface, it appears that Mahabharat is the story of the family feud within Kuru royal family between sons of Pandu (Pandav) and sons of Dhrutraashtr (Kaurav). But Mahabharat is certainly much bigger than a family feud. This epic is a vast storehouse of knowledge that teaches one about every aspect of life. The struggle in the epic is the clash between two different life-values. Dwaipaayan Krishn and Vaasudev Krishn put in relentless and continuous efforts to establish and strengthen the same fundamental values and ideals for which Ram fought the war against Raavan. Mahabharat is the story of their efforts. By learning and understanding this story and by adopting the learnings into our behaviour we can make our life happy and rich. This series “Mahabharat Ka Mahaparv” is most humbly submitted with the best of regards and wishes to those who value knowledge.


Valmikiy Ramayan is the original epic which narrates the story of Ram. It is a detailed work which describes Ram as a human being who faced all the difficulties of life. Ram of Valmikiy Ramayan faces dilemmas, discusses with his family and friends, accepts guidance from learned men and suffers hardships. He always takes the right decisions and follows the path of dharm. The series Valmiki Ramayan Ke Ram of conversations between Yogita Pant (Questioner) and Anil Chawla is intended to help the viewers understand the personality of Ram. After understanding one can adopt Ram's ideals in one's own life and enrich one's life.

Immediately after the death of Jaraasandh, the three rushed to the cave where various kings had been kept as prisoners and liberated all the kings. When they returned to the capital city, they were welcomed by the Brahmins and citizens of Magadh. Jaraasandh’s son, Sehdev, most humbly sought their permission to perform the last rites of his father. Once the last rites of Jaraasandh had been duly carried out, Krishn crowned Sehdev as the king of Magadh. They returned to Indraprasth with all the liberated kings. The three warriors, Krishn, Bheem and Arjun, reached the capital of Magadh dressed as Brahmins. After reaching there, they announced their presence, strength and intentions in a bold manner by damaging the top of a mountain which was held sacred by royal family and people of Magadh. They met Jaraasandh, but called him for a meeting after midnight. In the post-midnight meeting Krishn declared their animosity towards Jaraasandh due to his imprisonment of large number of kings. Krishn asked Jaraasandh to either release all the kings or prepare for death in a fight. Jaraasandh chose to fight. In a fight that lasted day and night for fourteen days, Bheem and Jaraasandh fought ferociously. When Jaraasandh started getting tired, Krishn motivated Bheem to finish off Jaraasandh. With guidance from Krishn, Bheem killed Jaraasandh by splitting him in two parts and throwing the two parts in two opposite directions. (Mahabharat/Sabhaaparv/ Jaraasandhvadh Parv/Chapter 21-24). King Brahdrath did not have any children. He met Muni Chandkaushik and expressed his sorrow at being childless. Muni gave a mango to the King who gave it to his two wives. The wives split the mango between them. In due course, both the queens gave birth to half-babies with each one having only one leg, one arm, one eye and so on. They decided to throw the half-babies. A raakshasee Jaraa picked up the two half-babies and joined them. The two parts merged together and a baby boy came to life who was named Jaraasandh. Krishn narrated the above story to Dharmraaj Yuddhishthir and sought permission to go with Bheem and Arjun to kill Jaraasandh. After getting the permission, the three departed to Magadh with the objective of killing Jaraasandh.
