    May 20 2023

    On Today’s Episode…

Caitlin Malone is a mother of three children and the founder of Kids Best Friends, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the training and placement of dual purpose safety dogs in schools to prevent and defend against gun violence. She shares the inspiration of what motivated her to start Kids Best Friends, their mission behind the program, and how she envisions the future of schools incorporating dogs.

    More about Caitlin Malone…

Prior to being a mother, Caitlin had a thriving yoga & wellness business in Park City, Utah. Caitlin has a B.A. in Comparative Literature and Theater from Occidental College in Los Angeles, CA. She has worked with and supported programs with working dogs for the last 20 years, starting with Paws for Healing, as a volunteer in veterans hospitals and special education classrooms with her therapy dog, Cedar.

Caitlin proudly supports veterans and the businesses that celebrate and support their sacrifice and service by providing them service animals. The proud owner of a service dog herself, Caitlin has profound empathy and respect for the ways service dogs transform people's lives and expand their world and confidence after trauma. Caitlin believes dogs are angels on earth, and their amazing skill set, unconditional love and self sacrifice is needed in schools now more than ever.

  • Ep. 02 Maggie Koerner (singer/songwriter)
    May 13 2023

On today’s episode of Troubadours Nook, I sit down with singer/songwriter, Maggie Koerner. Maggie has garnered a loyal following for her raspy and soulful vocals, heartfelt performances, and honest lyrics.

I met Maggie back in Shreveport, LA where we both went to school and shared mutual friends in the music scene. At the time Maggie had just caught the attention of producer and drummer, Brady Blade (brother of Brian Blade), to record her first album, Quarter Life.

She went on to tour with New Orleans based funk-band, Galactic, as their lead vocalist in 2013 and 2014, and performing with artists such as Trombone Shorty, Charles Bradley, Widespread Panic, and Gov’t Mule. She has headlined sold out shows across the country and played renowned festivals such as Austin City Limits and Jazz Fest. Most recently, Maggie was casted to star in an upcoming film, American Dream, and released her forthcoming album, Bartholomew Songs.

The best way I can describe Maggie’s music is a combination of swampy-soul swagger with ethereal acoustic experiences. Her songs touch on vulnerable and personal life experiences, social issues, and reflections on life. Her voice is equally gritty and powerful as it is soft and vulnerable. She has a sound of her own that has made her one of New Orleans beloved musicians.

On today’s episode, Maggie lifts the veil on the reality of pursuing a career in music and the struggles and hardships that go along with it. She candidly opens up about her own personal experiences in the industry, how she almost was not able to release her last album, her connection to her audience, and more.
