  • YOUR FRIEND MEMPHIS | NashFilm Podcast Series | DOCUMENTARY FEATURES
    Oct 3 2022

Memphis is wild at heart. He lives on the edge, pursuing his dreams with grit. But as a young man with cerebral palsy, living without government support, Memphis feels stuck. Saddled with their own baggage, Memphis’ parents waver between supporting his desire for independence and pushing him towards a more pragmatic reality. Seneca, his best friend, struggles to reconcile her own big ambitions with her small town life – and her relationship with Memphis. Shot over five years, debut director David Zucker’s Your Friend, Memphis is an intimate portrait of Memphis’ dogged determination: to bridge the distance between the world’s expectations and his own aspirations, no matter what.

  • IN THE BONES | NashFilm Podcast Series | DOCUMENTARY FEATURES
    Oct 1 2022

In the midst of deep ideological divisions in our country, it is easy to forget how intrinsically connected we all are. Connections shaped by systemic structures, often patriarchal and racist in nature, that were developed hundreds of years ago. IN THE BONES takes the viewer to Mississippi, the state where women have the fewest rights and protections, and draws connections between regional policies, particularly around equal pay and abortion, that have the potential to affect women and children across the nation. These connections are unearthed through collaging together intimate moments in the unfolding lives of a cast of characters in three distinct regions of the state; The Gulf Coast, the rural Delta and the State Capitol.

    Sep 30 2022

In the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, Johnny and Carol Williams robbed 56 banks together across the American west. At the time, it was the longest consecutive string of unsolved bank robberies in FBI history. When they were finally caught in 1994, Carol got 20 years and Johnny got life. They remained married even after Carol was released and Johnny was still in prison. But in 2021, Johnny got out. Johnny lives in a halfway house in Seattle. Carol cares for a dying aunt in Dallas. She left Texas once before— forty-one years ago, for Johnny. Now she must decide whether she will leave again. But as they remember their shared past, their memories diverge. Carol resolves to create a new future independent of the husband she once thought she knew. This is a story about how some people change and some people don’t. • BUTTERFLY IN THE SKY | NashFilm Podcast Series | DOCUMENTARY FEATURES
    Sep 30 2022

Butterfly In The Sky tells the story of the beloved PBS children’s series "Reading Rainbow," its iconic host LeVar Burton, and the challenges its creators faced in cultivating a love of reading through television. Two seconds into the bubbling synth sounds of its theme song will have a child of the 1980s or ‘90s exclaiming “Reading Rainbow!” Such is the beloved nature of the classic children’s literary television show that introduced millions of kids to the wonder of books. Not only did the series insist on having kids speak to kids about their favorite stories,Reading Rainbow introduced the world to one of the most adored television hosts of all time, LeVar Burton. Thanks to his direct, non-patronizing and, most importantly, kind delivery, Burton became a conduit to learning for children of every background - delving behind the pages to the people, places, and things each new story explored.
