School violence is on the rise and it is an international problem. Why should 9-1-1 first responders know about school violence? What is our role in the rise of school violence? On this episode we are joined by Anthony Alvo. Anthony Alvo brings his experience as a Marine Corps combat veteran, police officer, and public safety dispatcher to a career in education and training in the law enforcement industry. Since 2009, Anthony has been a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Basic Dispatch Academy instructor at Rio Hondo Community College in Whittier, CA., where he teaches numerous learning domains and advanced dispatch training including, “Public Safety Dispatcher’s Role in Mass Casualty and Fatality Incidents” and “Dispatcher’s Response to School-Based Incidents.”

We are also joined by Tonia Riles from the San Jose Police Department and she shares with us some career opportunities her department currently has.

Post-Traumatic Stress is a HUGE topic and today we talk about just that. What stresses you out? Is it overtime? Work-life balance? Stressful calls? Let's have a conversation about this specifically in the context of public safety.

Michelle Lilly is a subject matter expert and joins us today on the podcast. Her research interests focus on cognitive and emotional processes that predict PTSD in two populations: survivors of interpersonal trauma and 9-1-1 telecommunicators.
